R&D Controls Specialist - Medium Voltage Power Electronics Systems

Location: Shanghai, Shanghaï, CHN, 200335

What you’ll do:

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert in Power Electronics Controls, leading the development and commercialization of early-stage technologies for power electronics applications.
  • Lead system modeling, control algorithm development, grid interaction analysis, fault protection design, model-based code development, and hardware-in-the-loop validation for ERL Medium-Voltage Solid-State Transformer (MV SST) programs.
  • Lead advanced technology realization initiatives, collaborating with internal business stakeholders and global ERL teams, as well as external partners (e.g., universities, government agencies, manufacturing partners, etc.), while leveraging Eaton’s product development processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews, to support successful technology development and commercialization.
  • Perform technology scouting and proactively assess industry trends, emerging technologies, external partnerships, best practices and future opportunities to support Eaton’s technology development and long-term business strategies.
  • Leverage lessons learned from both successful and unsuccessful commercialization efforts to support future technology development, innovation decision-making, and commercialization strategies.
  • Partner closely with businesses to support the technology transfer into customized MV SST products and customer applications.
  • Collaborate with global ERL teams to transfer and deploy control technologies across similar programs in North America, Europe, and other Eaton organizations.
  • Provide strategic guidance to business strategies and product roadmaps by leveraging deep technical expertise, commercialization experience, and a reputation as a trusted technical advisor.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with 3+ years of relevant experience in power electronics, power conversion systems, controls, medium-voltage applications, or related technologies.
  • Deep expertise in power electronics controls, including control algorithm development, small-signal modeling, impedance analysis, stability analysis, grid interaction analysis, and system-level performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics applications across multiple industries, with hands-on experience in product design, system architecture development, and medium-voltage power electronics systems.
  • Proficiency in power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC, and AC/AC), including associated design considerations, trade-offs, and control strategies.
  • Strong capabilities in power system and grid modeling and analysis, as well as power electronics modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, pSPICE, or equivalent platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with DSPs, MCUs, FPGAs, and associated software and firmware development for power electronics applications.
  • Fluent English communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate, influence, and communicate in a global environment.
