What you’ll do:

Commercial Products and Assemblies has an opening for Engineer position in Switching Devices. Primary responsibility of this position will be to work on design and development of switching devices for US markets. This position will be responsible for executing Product Development projects related with Switching devices in accordance with UL standards to meet market needs, within budget, on-time and with required level of quality. He/She should lead efforts in PreLaunch and ProLaunch projects and develop new product variants and technologies. He/She should also design cost-effective and reliable solutions.
Success in this position requires the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment, strong motivation for pursuing project objectives and the ability to learn new techniques and development processes. We are looking for candidates who are able to see the bigger picture; strength in a system-level viewpoint is a must.

 

• Excellent experience in design and development of Switching Devices or similar product lines in Low Voltage domain.
• Responsible for design engineering activities involving current carrying path design, contact system, operating mechanisms, arc containment, insulation system, busbars, enclosure design, and sheet metal components. Must possess strong electromechanical design and system integration expertise.
• Lead multiple projects/programs through execution while ensuring product quality, cost, schedule, and technical objectives are achieved in alignment with business goals.
• Strong knowledge of UL 977, UL 98, UL 67, UL 891 or similar standards and applicable NEC requirements for testing, qualification, certification, and compliance of low-voltage switching assemblies intended for the North American market.
• Working knowledge of PLM and enterprise systems such as Enovia, SAP and Bid Manager.
• Experience in 3D modeling, detailing, tolerance analysis, and drafting using 3D CAD tools. Preference for Autodesk Inventor.
• Modify and sustain existing products to support customer requirements, manufacturing improvements, regulatory compliance, reliability enhancements, and market needs through the Engineering Change Management (ECN/ECO) process.
• Review and support new product development using appropriate engineering tools and methodologies such as DFSS, DFR, Design Reviews, Tolerance Stack-up Analysis, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Value Engineering.
• Review reliability assessments, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process FMEA, contact system reliability studies, thermal performance analysis, short-circuit withstand evaluations, structural analysis, and mechanism durability results.
• Develop and execute test plans for short-circuit withstand/current interruption tests, temperature rise tests, dielectric withstand tests, endurance/mechanical life tests, overload tests, making & breaking capacity tests, and environmental validations in accordance with UL 977 and applicable IEC/UL standards. Define test requirements, instrumentation, test setups, and acceptance criteria. Analyze test results, conduct root cause analysis of failures, and implement corrective/preventive actions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3–6 years of experience in the design and development of electro-mechanical products. Minimum 3 years of experience in low-voltage (LV) electrical products such as switches, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, etc.

Skills:

• Experience in the design and development of electro-mechanical products with sound knowledge of molded, sheet metal, machined, and cast component design. Good understanding of applicable product standards such as UL, CSA, IEC, and other relevant industry standards.
• Proficiency in product design and development tools such as Autodesk Inventor, Creo, SolidWorks, and engineering analysis tools including FEA/Simulation software.
• Proven track record of innovation demonstrated through patents, invention disclosures, successful product launches, value engineering, and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Hands-on experience in product development from concept through commercialization, including requirements definition, component and material selection, detailed design, 3D modeling, drawing creation, GD&T, tolerance analysis, prototype development, validation, and manufacturing release.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound understanding of component design and selection, stress analysis, fatigue life, tolerance stack-up, component fits, reliability, and ergonomic assembly methods.
• Experience in DFMEA, Design Reviews, DFM/DFA, Root Cause Analysis, and Engineering Change Management processes is preferred.
• Knowledge of UL 977 requirements, short-circuit testing, temperature-rise testing, dielectric testing, and product qualification processes for North American markets will be an added advantage.
