Job Description

About us

The Electrical Power Systems group is a global and multidisciplinary team responsible for the development of the driver of Dyson Digital Motors and Lithium-Ion battery management. Dyson Digital Motors are small and light, yet extremely powerful; they power the next generation of handheld vacuum cleaners as well as the Supersonic which is revolutionizing the beauty category. Dyson battery management systems provide the high-power energy sources required to power the category leading cord free, beauty and robot products. As part of this group, we are looking to expand our Power Electronics capability in SEA.

About the role

We are looking for a senior technical leader who can shape robust designs, raise engineering standards, and influence future product and technology roadmaps in the development of the digital motors and battery management system.

  • A recognized technical expert who can provide technical leadership for power electronics and battery management system design across multiple projects and product categories including battery pack integration, charging system, protection architecture, ensuring delivery of safe, reliable, and high-performance solutions.

  • Own, steer and defining the technical direction for power electronics content, including platform architecture, design reviews, risk management, validation strategy, and production-intent delivery.

  • Lead the development and implementation of robust BMS, motor drive, inverter, SMPS, and power conversion solutions that meet global product, safety, EMC/EMI, reliability, compliance and quality requirements.

  • Act as a subject matter expert across the business, providing authoritative guidance on power device selection, circuit topology, thermal performance, protection strategy, system integration, and design trade-offs.

  • Identify, assess, and resolve complex technical risks early in the product lifecycle, using structured engineering judgement, data-driven analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Define, develop and promote best practices, design standards, technical guidelines, and engineering processes to improve consistency, quality, efficiency, and reuse across global teams.

  • Able to influence technical direction, engineering standards, and key architecture decisions across the organization.

  • Support and contribute to platforming and architecture development for future BMS and power electronics solutions, enabling scalable designs, shorter development cycles, improved cost competitiveness, and stronger safety governance.

  • Partner with global engineering teams, project leaders, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, safety, test, and compliance teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, testable, reliable, and ready for launch.

  • Lead technical reviews and communicate complex engineering topics clearly to engineers, project stakeholders, and senior management to support effective decision-making.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers within the team and wider organization, strengthening technical capability, engineering discipline, and knowledge sharing.

  • Drive continuous improvement in tools, methods, standards, simulation, verification, validation, and design documentation across SEA and global locations.

  • Champion Dyson’s culture of innovation, technical excellence, constructive challenge, and accountability while ensuring safety and reliability remain central to all engineering decisions.

About you

Working at the forefront of technology is tough, so standards and expectations are high. You’ll be contributing to live projects from the start, so you’ll need to be curious, hungry to learn and ready to get stuck in. But it’s not just about technical expertise. You’ll need to be:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics, or a comparable discipline, with significant industrial experience in product development.

  • More than 7 years of industry experience in electronic design, power electronics, battery management systems, motor drives, or similar high-performance hardware development environments.

  • Strong technical expertise in Battery Management Systems and secondary battery technologies for battery-powered products, including protection systems, sensing, cell monitoring, power path control, thermal management, safety strategy, and system integration.

  • Proven experience in the design and development of power electronics products such as motor drives, battery management systems, inverters, SMPS, chargers, DC/DC converters, or other high-power electronic systems.

  • Deep understanding of semiconductor device characteristics, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, diodes, gate drivers, protection devices, and emerging power technologies in real-world applications.

  • Strong knowledge of circuit design, schematic review, PCB layout considerations, component selection, derating, creepage and clearance, EMC/EMI mitigation, and design for manufacturability.

  • Experienced in simulation, analysis, and validation tools such as SPICE, SiMetrix, MATLAB, Simulink, or equivalent tools used for power electronics and system-level evaluation.

  • Experience in applying AI-enabled tools or AI-augmented engineering workflows for hardware design, verification, validation, documentation, test automation, or test environment optimization is highly desirable.

  • Proven ability to understand, design and validate products for global safety, reliability, EMC/EMI, thermal, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Strong capability in failure analysis, root-cause investigation, technical risk assessment, design verification, design assurance, and problem solving across complex hardware systems.

  • Able to provide technical direction, lead cross-functional technical reviews, challenge assumptions constructively, and make sound engineering decisions under uncertainty.

  • Experienced in mentoring engineers, building technical capability, and influencing engineering practice beyond direct project delivery.

  • Experience working with ODM/JDM/OEM/EMS suppliers, capable of leading technical reviews, supplier assessments, design governance, and manufacturing readiness activities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to multidisciplinary teams and senior management.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global, and multidisciplinary environment, balancing technical depth with project delivery, quality, cost, and schedule needs.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • A creative, analytical, and accountable problem solver who is motivated to raise engineering standards and deliver products that are safer, better, robust and more reliable.

Above all, you’ll want to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
