The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.

  • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.

  • Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decisions that may affect the work of the team.

  • Provides engineering and technical support for hydro generation assets and regulated renewable resources (e.g., solar, wind, storage), including operations support, maintenance support, performance analysis, and reliability improvements.

  • Supports FERC/NERC compliance activities, including evidence collection, internal audits/assessments, and corrective action tracking for applicable standards.

  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.

  • Conducts engineering and related studies.

  • Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight, with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate, and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.

  • Possesses and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • In addition to required degree, four (4) years minimum of related work experience

  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical work (including scope, schedule, and estimates) and drive deliverables to completion with minimal oversight.

  • Proficient in principles and practices of project management (planning, risk management, change control, and stakeholder communication).

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, including reviewing work products and supporting skill development.

  • Experience in the utility industry (generation and/or regulated environment).

  • Experience supporting hydro generation and/or regulated renewable resources (e.g., solar, wind, storage).

  • Experience supporting FERC/NERC compliance activities (e.g., standards compliance, evidence, audit readiness, and corrective actions to closure).

  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering theories and principles to ambiguous or complex problems, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Experience developing and presenting technical recommendations to varied audiences (operations, maintenance, leadership, and external stakeholders as needed).

  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing interfaces with vendors/contractors.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to Cowans Ford or Bad Creek Hydro Station. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.
