Department: Water Resources

Employment Type: Full Time

Creativity. Innovation. A desire to effect positive change. That’s what it takes to work at Fuss & O’Neill – because that’s what we do for the communities in which we work: we create, innovate, and design long-lasting improvements that improve quality of life. Quality of life is also important on the job, so we’ve prioritized work-life balance by offering flexible/remote work opportunities, part-time benefits, and generous PTO. We believe that each day is an opportunity to support one another, to support our clients, and to support our communities. If you feel the same, then you’ve found your future.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to develop practical expertise in water resources engineering while working under the mentorship of experienced senior staff. You will contribute to meaningful projects that involve design analysis, site inspections, and technical documentation while building a strong foundation in engineering practices and company operations.

This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who holds (or is pursuing) an EIT certification and brings a solid foundation in civil or environmental engineering principles. You should be a detail-oriented problem-solver who is comfortable working both independently on routine tasks and collaboratively with senior engineers on more complex challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering techniques and practices to perform sequences of related technical tasks
  • Conduct routine analyses and testing, preparing summaries and reports for review by senior staff
  • Participate in field activities, including site visits and construction inspections
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data logs from job sites and client locations
  • Analyze laboratory data and compose detailed reports that summarize findings
  • Perform calculations, develop input for plans and specifications, and compile historical records
  • Present technical information clearly in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Refer complex or non-routine technical issues to more experienced staff for guidance and resolution
  • Participate in studies, analyses, and data collection under senior supervision to build broader experience

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering
  • Basic proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software or introductory-level experience
  • Strong reasoning and analytical ability
  • Ability to write clear, professional reports and correspondence
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, especially in technical settings
  • EIT (Engineer-In-Training) certification or active pursuit of the credential
  • Hands-on experience with Civil 3D (AutoCAD) or similar design software
  • Familiarity with water resources analysis and modeling
  • Experience in field-based engineering work or site inspections

This is a hybrid role, offering the best of both worlds—collaborate in-office with a high-performing team and enjoy the flexibility of working remotely part of the week. We're committed to supporting work-life balance while maintaining strong team connection and project delivery.
