TMP Designer

Te kōwhiringa | The opportunity 

Join Downer as a Temporary Traffic Management Designer, providing specialist design and risk-assessment support for telecommunications construction, maintenance and fault-response work within or near transport corridors. Based at Kerrs Road in Wiri, you will report to the Corridor Access Requests & TTM Lead - E&U Telecommunications. 

You will prepare, review, submit and maintain fit-for-purpose Temporary Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), Traffic Management Diagrams (TMDs) and supporting documentation. Your work will support timely approvals, practical delivery and safe outcomes for workers, road users and the wider community. 

In this role, you will: 

• Produce, review and amend TMPs, TMDs, reusable schemes and supporting documentation within your delegated authority. 
• Design practical traffic management controls for fibre and copper works, trenching, drilling, cable work, pits, chambers, poles, connections, maintenance and faults. 
• Complete context-specific risk assessments, considering traffic, road geometry, sight distance, site constraints, vulnerable road users, emergency services, property access and public transport. 
• Align TMP and Corridor Access Request information, submit complete documentation and respond to technical queries, conditions and amendment requests from approving authorities. 
• Complete self-checks and contribute to peer, risk and technical reviews, maintaining clear and auditable design records. 
• Provide technical advice to corridor access, planning, field and delivery teams, while managing priorities and escalating delivery risks early. 

 

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills 

You will bring strong technical judgement, attention to detail and the ability to develop practical, proportionate solutions in a deadline-focused environment. You will also have: 

• Current TTM Designer competency, including NZQA Unit Standards 33252, 33253 and 33254, or an accepted equivalent or successor qualification. 
• A relevant legacy TTM Planner warrant, with STMS or TMO credentials where applicable. 
• Experience preparing and reviewing TMPs, TMDs and risk assessments for telecommunications, utilities, civil or other corridor-based work. 
• Knowledge of NZGTTM, the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, RCA approval processes and the Utilities Access Code. 
• An understanding of how work methods interact with roads, berms, footpaths, cycle facilities, intersections and private accessways. 
• Competence using approved TTM design software, Microsoft Office and relevant client systems. 
• Clear written, verbal and stakeholder communication, with organised workload management and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
