Telecommunications Technician
Location: Cromwell, Otago, New Zealand

We’re looking for an experienced Telecommunications Technician to join our Energy & Utilities team based at our Cromwell depot, delivering fibre and telecommunications services across Otago and, at times, nationwide depending on project scope.
You’ll be involved in the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of core fibre networks, supporting major clients including Chorus, Spark, NZ One and other leading fibre providers. The work ranges from local builds and maintenance to large-scale national projects that connect towns, cities and critical infrastructure.
- $33–$39 base rate per hour
- Work from our Cromwell depot across Otago, with varied national project exposure
- Full-time stability, with a mix of rewarding day and night work

You will be a skilled Telecommunications Technician with strong fibre and network delivery experience, capable of working independently and as part of a field team across Otago and nationwide.
Minimum requirements for the role:
A Full New Zealand Driver License
At least three years of relevant experience in telecommunications, fibre, copper or similar network installation and maintenance OR a relevant NZQA Level 3 Telecommunications qualification (or equivalent).
Proven experience in fibre jointing, splicing, testing and commissioning, including core fibre/backbone networks
Strong OTDR capability and confidence using fibre test equipment
Ability to interpret underground plans and operate locating equipment
Additionally, we’d value:
Civils knowledge (ducting, reinstatement, pit/pipe work) and experience working at heights are advantageous.
Good communication skills, professionalism and a strong customer focus
Physical fitness and a commitment to working safely in all conditions
Flexibility to work a mix of day/night shifts and travel nationally when required
