People Insights Data Strategy and Platforms - Data Quality

The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling, and we can only achieve that through improving the success of the outstanding Employees and Cast Members that make up The Walt Disney Company! People Insights is a Center of Excellence (CoE) that enables Human Resource leadership to attract, engage, and retain talent through compelling and actionable People Analytics. We integrate and transform organizational, HR, and Talent Acquisition data into a unified BI portfolio that empowers clients to create compelling stories about our most valuable resource: people!

As a Senior Analyst, Data Quality Engineer you will bring your natural passion for working with data to a team that enables data-driven HR strategy. In this role, you will have the chance to apply your expertise and knowledge to champion data quality by crafting and deploying data quality strategies which are both scalable and maintainable in service of data warehousing and advanced analytics needs. This role requires skills to increase data reliability and consistency across complex datasets, a validated understanding of how data is architected in an enterprise, good communication, and the creativity to apply new insights to current solutions

What You Will Do

The Data Quality & Governance team develops and maintains tools and processes which support data management, access & environment management, policy compliance, data stewardship, and delivery of accurate data. We work with partners from across HR to ensure data requirements are clear, well detailed, translated into technical requirements, validated for accuracy & business usability, and effectively communicated back to collaborators throughout the implementation process.

Key responsibilities to this end include:

  • Collect data quality requirements from collaborators, seeking to understand the subjective “quality” measures that are meaningful to the data consumers
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Product Designers, Data Analysts, and business leaders to understand data quality difficulties within data workflows and end products/tools
  • Design and implement intuitive metrics that show partners the health of their data in an actionable format
  • Identify areas of improvement in data quality processes, connecting dots from data input to output, and propose solutions that improve data accuracy and reliability
  • Automate processes, procedures, and workflows to ease data validation processes across complex, interdependent data systems (source systems to data warehouse environments to BI environments)
  • Use your skills in SQL, Snowflake/AWS, and Python/R to build models that measure and evaluate the quality, consistency, resilience, accuracy, and availability of our data
  • Collaborate across teams as a data quality advocate, guiding on the need to balance which data/sources require high accuracy versus directionally accurate data
  • Develop and implement manual and automated test cases to ensure reliability of data pipelines, data migration processes and data transformations
  • Build and maintain technical documentation of acceptance criteria, test plans, use cases and results
  • Conduct initial root cause analysis for data issues, collaborating with partners to clearly identify the issue, scope of the issue, and path for research/solutioning
  • Analyze and clearly communicate impacts of data updates, changes, additions/removals to technical and non-technical partners

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or related field or 7+ years equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, data governance, business intelligence or analysis-based environments
  • Expertise with SQL and Python or other scripting languages and experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
  • Experience with visualization and reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, Cognos) and agile tools (Jira, Confluence, Git)
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing and integration architecture, inclusive of experience working with cloud platforms and data warehouses in large data environments
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to solve complex data issues and investigate systemic defects
  • Familiarity and experience working with Data Quality programs, covering data quality processes, statistical methods for assessing data, and defining potential solutions for remediation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that translate across technical and business domains
  • Collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, interdependent team environment
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced operational environment where change is the norm

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in machine learning model development and ELT/ETL design
  • Experience working in big data environments (Hadoop, S3, HBase)
