Staff Software Engineer, Notification Products

We're looking for a highly motivated, mission-focused Staff Software Engineer to join our Notification Products squad. Notifications Products will be responsible for building and maintaining the tools and frameworks leveraged by internal teams at Discord. These tools and frameworks we are developing will allow our teams to more effectively reach key audiences and improve the quality of notifications for our users.

We’re looking for a staff software engineer that has a strong product sense, strong sense of metrics and scale, and fearlessness in tackling large problems. You’ll be working with highly experienced engineering peers, cross functional partners, our highly experienced infrastructure teams, and supporting all other teams at Discord.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and build the platform that enables teams at Discord to send delightful notifications while delivering the maximum value to our users.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, Machine Learning, and Infrastructure teams to ship impactful capabilities for our notifications platform.
• Building delightful products with a very high bar for quality, performance, and a focus on impact.
• Collaborate with staff engineers and partners across the organization to ensure technical agreement to other systems, products and vision.
• Use your technical expertise to constantly improve and ensure your team achieves extraordinary results at the high technical level we set.
• Advise the leadership team on essential technical considerations related to ensuring engineering excellence and successful high impact key initiatives. 

What you should have

• You have 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• We're a multi-platform (full stack) team, so it's important that you have a solid understanding of the development frameworks and fundamentals of one or more of our platforms: web (React, TypeScript), Android (React Native, Kotlin), iOS (React Native, Objective-C, Swift), and backend (Python and some Elixir).
• You have experience leading large initiatives from inception to launch.
• You have experience building and shipping product features. Especially features for products at large scale or in real-time applications.
• You take a holistic approach to problem solving. You believe in solving a problem from first principles rather than simply shipping a solution. You learn from your mistakes and work through obstacles with the rest of the team.
• You are motivated to help your team members succeed and grow and learn from each other through empathetic feedback

Bonus Points

• You are a Discord user, and understand the core features and flow of Discord communications
• You have previously built a notifications or email orchestration system

#LI-Remote

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $223,000 to $245,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
