Principal Engineer, Infrastructure & Control Plane - ATX

Your Impact

At CS DISCO, our cloud infrastructure and system control plane are the backbone that enables us to deliver cutting-edge solutions to our clients. As a Principal Engineer  on our team, you will be a key technical leader, guiding the evolution and management of our AWS-based cloud infrastructure, focusing on our internal platform and control plane. Your expertise will drive enhancements to our system's reliability, scalability, security, and the overall success of our cloud-based solution development. Your technical leadership will help shape our future cloud strategy through your work with our internal customers, our fellow Engineers.

What You'll Do

• Define strategy for highly scalable and crazy performant infrastructure and system control plane, including environment configuration, tagging schemes, tenancy models, and permissioning.
• Identify capabilities and abstractions needed  to satisfy required performance and scalability targets through automated, zero-downtime build, deploy, and control plane systems.
• Build and maintain roadmap and architecture for realizing those abstractions and capabilities.
• Lead software and systems development for that roadmap.
  Provide guidance and sound reasoning for technology selection particularly in “build vs buy”.
• Contribute leadership, understanding and lessons learned to the greater DISCO systems.
• Recruit, hire and mentor other engineers to accomplish the above.

Who You Are

• 10+ years of relevant experience
• Ability to design and document systems architectures including Domain-Driven Design, Jobs to Be Done, architectural patterns, and diagramming techniques
• Mastery of infrastructure automation such as Terraform, Cloudformation, Chef, Puppet, etc.
• Proficiency with container-based deployment such as Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
• Fluency in one or more cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure (AWS preferred)
• Experience operating systems at scale including observability and site reliability
• Experience using Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) with an emphasis on a well-maintained testing pyramid.
• Experience measuring reliability and performance of datastores at scale, such as: ElasticSearch, NoSQL Stores, Kafka, Columnar Databases, DataFlow or Pipeline Systems, Graph DataStores.
• Experience with multiple software stacks, have opinions and preferences, and not be married to a specific stack.

Even Better If You Have…

• Advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, or similar
• Experience leading the lifecycle of a multi-system design from ideation through production deployment
• Experience designing, modifying, and operating multi-tenant systems.
• An obsession with requirements, functional and non-functional.
• An understanding of how to identify, select, and extend 3rd Party Components (Commercial or Open Source) that provide operational leverage but do not constrain our product and engineering creativity.
