Your role

Dialpad is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Engineering Manager to join the growing team on a mission to build a new experience, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong desire to deliver a high-quality, high-performance, scalable, product using modern technologies, willing to make an impact while collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will lead a growing team of 4+ senior frontend and backend engineers based in Dialpad’s Headquarters. Although this is primarily a leadership position, given the current team size, it will be a hands-on role as a start, performing technical IC tasks, frontend and backend.

This is a high-impact role directly representing significant contributions to Dialpad’s revenues and is of particular strategic importance. This position reports to our VP of Engineering, who is based in North America, and is looking for the person to join the team in our San Ramon, US Office.

What you’ll do  

• You’ll have highly experienced engineers as direct reports, and will support their performance and career growth through regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, coaching, and mentoring.
• Help to define a 1-3 year roadmap & vision for the team.
• Consistently work with your direct reports to support their career growth.
• Assist in evaluating technical design & architecture documents and proposals on an ongoing basis, in anticipation of increased scale and ever-evolving technology to meet the demands of rapidly growing business needs.
• Work with geographically distributed peers including engineering managers, technical leaders, product managers, designers, support engineers and other stakeholders in order to align on engineering-wide priorities.
• Own large projects end-to-end including requirements gathering, planning, resource allocation, and sometimes execution.
• Drive effective engineering processes and policies.
• Scale the team by recruiting candidates from diverse backgrounds.
• Get hands-on when necessary and assist with technical implementations.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and other team activities to ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Constantly optimize the architecture for maximum speed and scalability.
• Ensure that features are shipped on-time and with the highest quality.
• Mentor engineers and help them grow their skills, expertise, and technical responsibilities.
  
  

Skills you’ll bring  

• 5+ years experience leading a high-performing team of engineers, including managing and shipping cross-functional or multi-team projects.
• 10+ years professional experience as an engineer or engineering leader.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent in experience.
• Strong experience working in the CCaaS / UCaaS industry.
• Experience with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript web framework (React, Angular, Ember, etc.)
• Experience using state management libraries: Vuex, Redux, Recoil, MobX.
• Experience using Typescript and ES6.
• Experience with building reusable and modular components.
• Experience designing and building interactions that are fully accessible and comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL schemas.
• Experience working with Python.
• Experience working with Microservices, Serverless Architectures.
• Experience working with Containerization and Orchestration, in the Cloud  [Google Cloud Platform is a plus].
• Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent them.
• Experience with highly agile and iterative development processes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with mentoring engineers and helping them grow their skills.
• Hiring & interviewing skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience with real-time communications standards (WebRTC, SIP, VoIP)

Our Tech Stacks: 

• Vue.js/Pinia frontend running natively in Electron.
• Java backend with RESTful interfaces, Postgres, Redis, Couchbase, Kafka, PHP, Web application containers like Tomcat.  Python backend on Google Cloud Platform (AppEngine, Spanner, Datastore , BigQuery, Dataflow, Memcache, Cloud Tasks, Pub / Sub).
