Employees at UWM in the College of Engineering and Applied Science work in an innovative, collaborative, and casual-work environment with flexible work/life balance schedules. If you are a motivated, results-oriented individual who wants to make a real difference with our team, community, and campus, we encourage you to apply!
The Energy Systems Research Scientist will be a member of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Center for Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems UWM-SEES team, which performs research on government and industry funded grants and supports a university engineering research laboratory focused on grid-connected power electronic systems, microgrids and transportation system electrification.
The Research Scientist will propose and lead cutting edge research projects that bridge the gap between basic research and installations responsible for converting and supplying power and energy to critical systems. Additional responsibilities include the support of a range of laboratory growth initiatives and government funded research grants that connect original equipment manufacturers and system integrators within the power and energy sector to the specialized training of power electronics engineers.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with a team of university engineering faculty to conduct, report and publish scientific/engineering research projects related to the development of efficient, reliable and resilient power electronics-based power distribution systems through the application of digital engineering processes connecting emerging technologies to current and future applications
Assist in supervision of teams of undergraduate and graduate student researchers on research projects, including assigning tasks, providing technical assistance and following up on task completion and reporting.
Develop concepts for new areas of power electronic conversion, high voltage engineering, electrothermal-physical modeling, data generation through evolutionary optimization and Al/ML based solutions, suitable for obtaining funding through successful research proposals as a key contributor on the proposed work.
Interact productively with the UWM-SEES team and with university faculty, and with current and future industrial partners, having the goal of performing early-stage research to de-risk and enable commercialization and deployment of power/energy technology, systems and products.
