ECommerce Data Analyst

Department: Business Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Mississauga, Remote

The Role

It's Wednesday morning and the entire internet is glued to their screens. What's the occasion? The largest smartphone manufacturer in the world is livestreaming the announcement of their latest devices. You've known about them for months now, but that hasn't stopped you from tuning in - where else are you going to see a Senior VP of Software Engineering travel at warp speed around a CGI campus? With each passing announcement, the product catalogue you've spent weeks QA-testing snaps into focus. New SKUs configured, sale pricing validated, order flows stress-tested everything's going according to plan.

At the eleventh hour, a wrench in the system: a new smartwatch. A product nobody saw coming, and certainly nothing your marketing feeds were built around. Are the product data feeds pulling the right attributes? Do the upsell and cross-sell app configurations need updating? What does the post-purchase funnel look like for a brand-new accessory category with zero historical data to lean on? The answers to these questions hinge upon your work. Without missing a beat, you've pulled up your dashboards, kicked off a few SQL queries, and started combing through Shopify to make sure the infrastructure can actually support what the business needs all while keeping one eye on what the internet's peanut gallery is saying about the surprise announcement.

By the end of the day, the data tells a clear story: a new AB test scoped for the post-purchase funnel, a product feed updated and verified for accuracy, and a fresh dashboard briefed and ready for stakeholder sign-off. The curveball has been caught, documented, and turned into an opportunity. Not only are we moving fast, we're moving with confidence, because the data holding everything together is clean, current, and trustworthy. None of this would have been possible without the sharp instincts and technical depth of our ECommerce Data Analyst.

Does this sound like your Wednesday? Of course not. You don't work here... yet. Want to change that? Keep reading.

Before you can get the opportunity to join our passionate, dynamic team and help us grow the cult, you'll need to prove yourself. Let’s see if you’ve got what it takes…

The Characteristics

The Responsibilities and Qualifications

In order to make a positive impact as part of our team, your focus in this role will be to take on:
  • eCommerce Data Maintenance
    • Configure and maintain Shopify application infrastructure, not limited to Marketing apps (coupons, channels, upsells), CX apps (help desk, customer data, tagging), Shipping (rates, availability rules), and Shopify automations (Fraud Prevention, Flow).
    • Work with other departments to collect and assess if data needs are being met, or if new solutions and opportunities would better serve those departments. Collect and communicate requirement scoping to be prioritized with the data team and other departments.
    • eCommerce data and merchandising QA testing at major launches and catalogue changes (i.e. sale pricing, new product configurations, order flows, etc.)
  • Marketing Support
    • Support product data feeds and catalogues, performing regular checks for feed accuracy and relevance.
    • AB Testing - execute (build or coordinate) regular AB testing for marketing performance - i.e. post-purchase funnels, shipping range testing, GWP incentives, etc.
  • Reporting & Dashboards
    • Own universal data accuracy by regularly reviewing for changes in data structure that could impact downstream reporting.
    • Create new and maintain existing marketing and interdepartmental dashboards from documenting required sources & KPIs, brief approvals, and producing the draft dashboards for testing.
    • Service data requests - when a specific set of customer, order, margin, performance, or product data is needed, perform ELT tasks (extract, load, transform) the relevant data for decision-making and action.
If you find a box you can't check, stop reading and look for a company that demands less from their analysts:
  • A degree in Business Admin or Analytics, or 2 years' experience in a data analytics role
  • Strong foundational knowledge of DTC eCommerce businesses.
  • Advanced knowledge of Google Sheets and SQL.
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Working experience with databases such as SQL and data processes such as ETL frameworks is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings.
  • A robust communication style - you have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
