Senior Power BI Developer - PUNE

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary resource for production support of existing Power BI reports and dashboards: triaging issues, diagnosing data refresh failures, resolving broken visuals, and ensuring reports remain accurate and performant.
• Monitor and troubleshoot scheduled refreshes, gateway connectivity, and data source credential issues.
• Respond to end-user reported issues, diagnose root causes (data, DAX, model, or source-level), and implement fixes with minimal disruption.

• Own and optimize Power BI semantic models (datasets): managing relationships, hierarchies, aggregations, and refresh strategies (incremental refresh, hybrid tables where appropriate).
• Author and maintain a well-organized library of DAX measures and calculation groups, ensuring consistency, reusability, and performance.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in existing models using DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, and Tabular Editor.
• Manage calculated columns judiciously, understanding when logic belongs in DAX vs. Power Query vs. the SQL source layer.

• Design and implement a cohesive Row-Level Security (RLS) and Object-Level Security (OLS) framework across the report portfolio, ensuring appropriate data access by role, business unit, and geography.
• Manage workspace organization, access controls, and app-based distribution to ensure reports reach the right audiences with the right permissions.
• Establish and enforce naming conventions, documentation standards, and development best practices across the BI team's Power BI assets.
• Configure and manage deployment pipelines (Dev-Test-Prod) to support controlled releases.

• Design and develop new Power BI reports and dashboards based on stakeholder requirements: from executive scorecards to operational detail reports.
• Build reports that connect to optimized SQL backends, working closely with the SQL development team to ensure the data layer supports reporting needs.
• Translate business questions into effective visual designs with appropriate interactivity (slicers, drill-throughs, bookmarks, tooltips).

• Partner with US-based business stakeholders (operations, finance, legal, executive leadership) to understand reporting needs and deliver iterative solutions.
• Provide training and enablement to business users on how to use and interpret Power BI reports.
• Communicate proactively about production issues, planned maintenance, and report changes.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 5–8 years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including Power BI Desktop, Service, and gateway administration.
• Deep expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and semantic model design.
• Experience managing a production portfolio of Power BI reports at scale (20+ reports, multiple business units).
• Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.

• Advanced DAX: comfortable authoring complex measures involving iterators (SUMX, FILTER), time intelligence, virtual tables, calculation groups, and context transition.
• Strong Power Query (M) skills for data transformation, parameterization, and source connectivity.
• Proficiency with tools: DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, Performance Analyzer, ALM Toolkit.
• Solid SQL skills: able to read, write, and validate queries in SQL Server to understand and troubleshoot the data feeding reports.
• Understanding of Kimball dimensional modelling and how star/snowflake schemas affect Power BI model performance.
• Experience implementing and managing RLS/OLS in production environments.
• Familiarity with Power BI deployment pipelines, Git integration, and workspace management.
• Strong communication skills: able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work effectively with a US-based team.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Direct Lake) is a plus.
• Experience with Power BI Report Server (on-prem) in addition to Service is a plus.

• 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development delivering production-grade dashboards and semantic models.
• Advanced DAX expertise: must be able to demonstrate authoring complex measures, not just basic SUM/AVERAGE.
• Proven experience managing and optimizing Power BI semantic models (relationships, refresh strategies, performance tuning).
• Experience implementing Row-Level Security in production.
• Working SQL proficiency (T-SQL): able to query, validate, and troubleshoot data independently.
• Must speak English fluently and communicate effectively with US-based stakeholders.
• Ability to work IST shift hours that overlap with US Eastern Time.
