As our Staff Software Engineer, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders across departments, including customers. Your focus will be on solving complex, ambiguous technical issues and leading projects with long-term strategic value.
You are a maker with leadership duties, but without direct reports. You will rely on your interpersonal skills to influence others, helping engineers to reach the next level as an educator, through coaching and mentoring.
Being a senior technical leader, you are a respected technical leader across the organisation who is able to balance product and engineering needs, taking into account business strategy.

Your responsibilities include:

• Advocating for best practices.
• Developing a clear understanding of architecture & design decisions beyond the immediate technical area of expertise.
• Providing high-level technical guidance to the leadership team.
• Attracting external engineering talent as ambassador of the organisation.
• Removing technical blockers.
• Identifying innovation opportunities.
• Convincing the engineering team why a particular technical approach is chosen, based on informed decisions.
• Being an expert on our product, technology and processes.
• Maintaining and improving overall code quality.
• Educating across all engineering teams.
• Helping teams to avoid pitfalls.

• Highly proficient with Ruby and Ruby on Rails
• University degree in Computer Science or similar educational background
• Strong foundation in design - API and data modelling
• Ability to write efficient, secure, well-documented, and clean code
• Experience in writing automated tests - unit, integration and end-to-end tests
• You have a very good understanding of server side technologies and distributed systems
• We rely heavily on these additional tools and technologies: Vue.js, Docker, Redis, Gitlab Pipelines.
• Desire to work in a startup with a fast-paced environment and experience with Agile methodologies
• Fluency in English Language (German is plus)
