Library Software Engineer - Java

Datadog Continuous Profiling provides customers with real-time, always-on visibility into the performance and resource utilization of their applications in production. Seamlessly integrated with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and distributed tracing, Continuous Profiling enables developers and operations teams to optimize application performance, reduce latency, and control cloud costs. By delivering code-level insights without impacting application performance, Continuous Profiling empowers teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks, improve resource efficiency, and ensure applications run smoothly at any scale. With Continuous Profiler, teams always have actionable information at hand during incidents, enabling them to quickly diagnose performance issues, pinpoint the root cause down to specific lines of code, and minimize downtime or user impact. Furthermore, always knowing how their code performs in production allows teams to move faster and with confidence, driving innovation while maintaining the reliability and efficiency of their systems.

We are looking for a software engineer to work on our open-source Java library. On top of working on the daily life of this open-source project, it includes working with Java runtime engineers to help fix issues in OpenJDK, and on occasion also contributing features to the Java platform!

What You’ll Do:

• Develop performant code in Java and C/C++.
• Work closely with the other six Libraries teams through working groups and RFCs.
• Collaborate with the rest of the profiling teams to make new product ideas happen.
• Ensure that your quality criteria are met thanks to our shared testing platform, health metrics, performance monitoring metrics, etc.

Who You Are:

• You are an experienced Java/C/C++ developer. 
• You have experience with the OpenJDK Java runtime.
• You are familiar with JVM ins and outs (GC, JIT, bytecode, etc).
• You’ve written piles of clean, correct, well-tested and performant Java/C++ code.
• You care about performance and have experience in measuring and optimizing code.
• You care about quality and maintain a strong testing discipline.
• You want to work in a fast, high growth startup environment.

Bonus Points:

• You have experience with JNI.
• You have written a Java Agent before.
• You have experience with byte-buddy, asm or other JVM instrumentation libraries.
• You have experience with other JVM runtimes, such as J9 or GraalVM.
• You have experience with performance optimization of applications, frameworks and libraries
