Job Description

  • Experienced Reliability and Maintainability Engineer to join our Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineering team located in Everett, WA. (Puget Sound)
  • The selected candidate will help design, certify & support commercial airplanes by applying state-of-art reliability and maintainability engineering design, modelling and analysis principles. R&M Engineering is a key functional discipline that supports the airplane development for optimal performance, lifecycle economics & compliance to safety and airworthiness requirements.
  • The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite.

Position Responsibilities:                                                     

  • Use modelling, simulation and data analytics methodologies & tools including statistical and probabilistic analyses.
  • Serve as a technical specialist supporting other functional design groups during all stages of the airplane product development and support lifecycle.
  • Responsible for aiding in determining program technical performance measures (TPMs) such as schedule reliability, airplane operational availability & maintenance cost.
  • Provide support in the following areas:
  • Design for Reliability & Safety (airplane and system design reliability requirements validation & verification, reliability requirements allocation to suppliers, failure modes, rates, effects, propagation and detection analysis, architecture & operational provisions, safety & certification analysis, certification support, reliability & durability testing).
  • Interaction with airplane system suppliers, business partners, airline customers, airplane development program leaders, and functional management is typical, as is a high level of communication between the rest of the R&M Engineering internal organization, program teams, and functional design areas. Team involvement and individual effort, problem solving, and managing multiple actions and assignments will be regular duties for an R&M engineer.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Reliability Analysis:

  • Conduct reliability predictions, Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and fault tree analysis (FTA) for aircraft systems and components.
  • Develop reliability block diagrams (RBDs) to model system reliability.
  • Identify potential failure modes and their impacts on system performance, and work with design teams to mitigate risks.

Maintainability Engineering:

  • Analyze and optimize maintenance processes to ensure ease of maintenance and reduce downtime.
  • Develop and evaluate maintenance task analysis (MTA) and logistic support analysis (LSA).
  • Provide input on design for maintainability, including recommendations on accessibility, modularity, and ease of repair.

Testability Engineering:

  • Define and develop testability requirements to ensure that systems are easily testable during both development and operational phases.
  • Develop Built-In Test (BIT) strategies, including fault detection, isolation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate test points, sensors, and diagnostics into system designs.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with propulsion or airplane systems
  • Reliability engineering experience.
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) experience.
  • Commercial Airplane Certification experience.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, DO-178C/DO-254, and other relevant certification requirements is preferred.
