We are delighted to present a remarkable opportunity to join Cubico Sustainable Investments (Cubico) as a Wind Engineering Manager, based in London, UK. As a key member of our team, the successful candidate will be tasked with driving the business towards best practice in wind asset engineering, turbine selection, turbine manufacturing and commissioning quality. The wind Engineering Manager will report to the Head of Engineering and will provide support to local project teams and corporate business assurance across all issues related to wind asset engineering and technology. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the wind engineering and technology area within the Engineering function, responding to business needs for assets in different stages (development, construction, and operations), and for M&A opportunities.
  • Develop, implement and maintain management processes, guidance and standards related to wind engineering and turbine engineering, whilst also supporting in assuring understanding of, and adherence to, such processes. 
  • Recruit, develop, retain and lead a high-performing team of wind experts. 
  • Provide support to country and corporate teams on technical matters associated with the design of pre-construction assets and the implementation of design for construction assets.  
  • Provide support to country and corporate teams on technical matters across all phases of the project lifecycle assets.  
  • Proactively share knowledge and experiences with other departments across the business.
  • Develop business understanding and capability in turbine health monitoring, predictive maintenance and diagnostics. Identify business opportunities to optimise asset availability through industry leading digital tools for health monitoring and diagnostics using SCADA and vibration based condition monitoring.
  • Maintain current knowledge of turbine market, interacting with suppliers to understand technology developments and any changing trends.
  • Act as a central point of co-ordination for wind engineering and turbine related issues, sharing lessons learned to the rest of the business. 
  • Turbine selection – Assist Cubico in their development projects by aiding in the process of selecting wind turbines. This includes identifying various turbine options, evaluating turbine technology, assessing the suitability of the site, and optimizing the selection based on the expected lifespan specific to the site. Additionally, effectively manage consultants involved in the project as necessary
  • Turbine procurement - Act as technical lead for turbine supply, and service and maintenance  negotiation and procurement. Defining minimum requirements and specifications in tender packages, reviewing agreements and technical annexes and participating in negotiations.
  • Project delivery - Define standards and scope for turbine inspection and commissioning review, support the project team in review of inspection data and commissioning documentation. 
  • Project delivery -  Provide technical support to project team interacting with turbine suppliers and service contractors as appropriate.
  • Operations - Assist Asset Management to review turbine performance and operational status during early phase of project operation.
  • Operations - scope and review End of Warranty inspections and analysis, providing technical support to Asset Management to reach an acceptable technical resolution.
  • Operations - Identify and analyse asset condition and or performance issues, and identify and support the implementation of additional investigation to determine root causes and corrective actions and support implementation. 
  • Operations - Provide technical support to project teams interacting with turbine suppliers and service contractors as appropriate.
  • Provide a centre of expertise for wind asset integrity, including developing Cubico’s approach to assessing asset life and lifecycle management strategies.
  • Technical due diligence - Lead Cubico technical due diligence for wind operational projects managing advisers as required, and working collaboratively with other Technical Functions and country Asset Management teams to provide timely feedback to origination teams and senior management, and develop solutions for mitigating risks and adding value.
  • Technical due diligence - Contribute to the assessment of risk and opportunity of all potential acquisitions in relation to turbine engineering, current condition and site specific expected life.
  • Develop DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX assumptions.
  • Attend site visits and factory acceptance tests as required.
