Founding Frontend Engineer

Location: New York City
Compensation: $200K – $300K • Offers Equity
Employment Type: FullTime
Welcome to Crosby, the next generation law company!
We're a team of technologists and legal experts collaborating closely to reimagine corporate legal services from the ground up. We build proprietary technology and human in the loop workflows to radically enhance the lawyer machine relationship. Our mission is to review complex documents faster than ever and with perfect quality.
Crosby was founded by Ryan (Penn, Stanford Law, ex Cooley, former GC) and John (Penn M&T, ex Ramp, ex Google).
We believe:
A great legal system is the watermark of a great society.
Legal work is art and science. We are discovering the frontier between the two— codifying what can be systematized, and amplifying human expertise where judgment matters most.
The right way to deploy AI in law isn’t by selling software. It’s by selling outcomes — higher-quality legal work, delivered faster and more efficiently
In an in-person culture at our NYC office.
The Role:
As a Founding Frontend Engineer, you will own the user facing experience of the Crosby platform. You will be responsible for building beautiful, intuitive, and highly functional interfaces that empower our legal professionals to work with unprecedented efficiency. You’ll collaborate directly with the founders, product, and our legal team to translate complex workflows into elegant user experiences. This is a chance to build our entire frontend from the ground up, establish our design system, and set the standard for quality and speed.
What You’ll Do:
Define the frontend: Architect and build the core frontend of the Crosby platform using modern Frameworks like React, Vite, and TanStack
Design the user experience: Design and implement intuitive, high performance user interfaces for complex, data intensive legal workflows
Prototype and iterate fast: Work closely with product and our in house legal team to rapidly prototype and iterate on user facing features
Lay the foundation: Establish a maintainable frontend codebase, including our component library and design system
Collaborate deeply: Work with backend engineers to design and implement APIs that deliver a seamless user experience
Grow the team: Mentor and help recruit world-class engineers
What We’re Looking For:
Experience: 6+ years of frontend engineering experience, with deep proficiency in TypeScript and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Svelte).
User Obsession: A strong sense of user empathy and an obsession with detail in delivering high quality, polished products.
Builder Mindset: You are excited about the opportunity to create and scale systems from the ground up and make foundational technical decisions
Collaborative: An effective communicator who excels at working with cross disciplinary teams, especially product, design, and backend
Ownership: You are driven to take full responsibility for projects from ideation through execution and delivery
Curiosity: Passionate about learning and experimenting with new technologies to solve complex UI/UX challenges
Ideal Qualifications:
Experience building interfaces for complex, AI powered applications or agentic systems
Strong design sense and experience working with modern design tools (ex: Figma)
Prior experience working in a fast paced, early stage startup environment.
Familiarity with Python and our backend stack
Why Work at Crosby:
Foundational Impact: As a founding engineer, you will shape the user experience, culture, and technical direction of the entire company.
Competitive salary and equity compensation.
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
Unlimited PTO.
In person team in NYC with a collaborative, high energy environment.
