Job Description

General Job Summary:

The Engineering Team at Cricut develops and delivers high quality products that delight our consumers. Come join us in the development of these products and gain the satisfaction of seeing people enjoy and love the things they can create with them. The primary responsibility of this position is to work with part suppliers and contract manufacturers on new product introductions (NPI’s) and to resolve product and process issues on existing products. This will require engineering expertise, technical problem solving and design capabilities to improve or correct new or existing products.

Essential Duties:

• Investigate product or process issues and causes, and make recommendations and implement corrective actions to resolve the issue.
• Work with design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product ramps leading up to production.
• Provide CAD and 2D drawing support as needed for NPI projects
• Perform testing of designs to prove functionality and reliability
• Work as part of the Sustaining Engineering team to promote and implement cost saving initiatives on both products and processes.
• Keep appraised of the customer experience related to company products
• Work with the R&D/Product Development team to evaluate designs for manucturing and assembly capability
• Develop concepts and ideas for new products or methods to improve existing products.
• Be capable of doing design for mechanisms, sheet metal, plastic housings and components in support of new and existing products as needed to resolve product issues.
• Develop cost estimates based on product concepts or designs
• Recommend materials and components in designs.
• Manage multiple issues/projects at once. Work independently with little or no direction. Keep management informed and apprised of design. Work with other functional groups (marketing, sales, customer service, etc.) within the company to develop and evaluate designs that meet customer needs.
• Present and participate in design reviews and update designs as required.
• Generate design specifications and drawings for external design and manufacturing activities.
• Apply statistical problem solving methods such as process capability studies and DOE’s in the development, improvement of products.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience in bringing products from concept to high volume manufacturing
• Trained and experienced in the application of statistical based problem solving methods to product and process improvement.
• Experience designing consumer based products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices or similar.
• Trained in root cause and problem solving methods such as 8D, 5-Why’s, etc.
• Highly desired to be proficient in the use of ProE, Solidworks candidates will be considered. Use of feature based design principles in 3D modeling
• Interest in and an aptitude for robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, mechanism design, etc.
• Experienced in injection molded plastics design, tooling best practices and process tuning.
• Familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
• Familiar with rapid prototype techniques and processes
• Familiarity with GD&T techniques
• Effective communicator.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ Years of Experience designing consumer-based products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices, automotive components, or similar.
