Compensation

Compensation includes a base salary of $156,200.00 - $260,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

As part of the Cox Automotive family, Marketplace Enablers supports many of the foundational capabilities throughout Manheim including Vehicle Services. This encompasses systems and associated support for team members and external customers, including title vault management, customer portal, workbench, settlement support systems, and auction management systems.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We are seeking a dedicated senior engineering leader to support Cox Automotive’s Vehicle Services teams. The Director of Software Engineering will be a leader who can successfully mentor and guide these teams, nurturing an environment characterized by trust, innovation, collaboration, and high performance. This role requires experience in enterprise software development to overcome technical and organizational obstacles, mentor lead technical staff, and collaborate with product, architecture, and other engineering leaders to cultivate a robust organization. The Director should have a strong passion for using modern technologies and processes to deliver superior software to our customers. 

 

Reporting to the AVP of Engineering Vehicle Services, the Director of Software Engineering plays a critical role in supporting the growth strategies for Manheim Vehicle Services. The Director will work closely with Engineering Leadership and key stakeholders across the company to carry out the company's strategic priorities. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES (including but not limited to): 

  • Accountable for the efficient organization and operation of all engineering teams within the release train. 
  • Overall responsibility for the engineering and architecture alignment of all solutions delivered within release train. 
  • Ensures that team organization, individual development, and communication are in line with the Vehicle Services and broader Cox Automotive vision. Builds new and supports existing Scrum and leadership teams that perform at a high-level. Fosters inter-team collaboration and productivity. 
  • Implements, measures and reports on the execution strategy defined for the team. Execution includes delivery of planned work, with deliverables that meet company standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability. Effectively communicates with key stakeholders when either scope or timeline of projects require modification. 
  • Oversees engineering processes and ability to generate new processes to meet needs.  Works closely with senior leadership on continual process improvement and organizational change to support Agile values. 
  • Responsible for technology roadmap of new components delivered. 
  • Responsible for appropriately allocating teams to the highest value of investments per business backlog and release planning. Formulate and communicate the mitigation strategies for long running projects, or projects where risk is high. 
  • Tracks and measures project work and programs to assess overall success. 
  • Is accountable for effectively managing operational support of existing and new platforms to maximize availability and minimize time-to-resolution; including successful "you build it, you run it" mentality, training, and procedures. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the program scrum teams’ overall morale and productivity continue to improve. 
  • Manages career progression for team members to include hiring, performance reviews, salary decisions, mentoring, and coaching. 
  • Partners with leadership on higher level across other Cox Automotive sites adopting the components built. 
  • Allocates resources strategically and tactically by balancing the broader Cox Automotive lens with the locally supported business unit’s needs. 
  • Oversees budgeting for local team including hardware to support projects, staffing, facilities and tools for software development. 
  • Responsible for local engineering brand awareness strategy and implementation as well as responsible for continuing to evolve culture of engineering team to drive Cox Automotive Engineering operating principles. 
  • Represents Cox Automotive & Vehicle Services in the local and regional community; building and fostering relationships used to promote community outreach, name & brand recognition, and talent acquisition. 

 

Must-have 

  • Strong background and understanding of agile (SAFe preferred) software development lifecycle management – build, scale, govern and operate. 
  • Experience with leading development in cloud environments (AWS preferred), including balancing for performance and cost-optimization. 
  • Prior experience as a Software Engineer in an individual contributor role

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience 
  • 10+ years of technology and software engineering experience in a complex and fast-paced business environment (ideally an agile environment) with exposure to a variety of technologies and solutions 
  • 5+ years of people management experience required
  • Experience managing other people managers preferred 
  • 7+ years of experience coding and delivering software as a team member (required)
  • 3+ years delivering products based on micro-services architecture 
  • 5+ years of experience designing, building and consuming RESTful APIs 
  • Background and experience in Automotive a plus 
  • Experience leading teams through cloud adoption a plus 
  • Strong software engineering and software architecture skills 
  • Team player with excellent work habits and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must live within a commutable distance or be willing to relocate to Atlanta, GA at own expense (required)
  • Must be willing to travel to secondary sites as/when needed 
  • Travel varies, but will be approximately 25%
