Team Overview:

Data Platform Organization at Coupang builds products and technologies that help internal teams to process their data at scale and in a reliable fashion. As part of the Data Platform organization, the Analytics Platform team is responsible for building tools to analyze client-side event logs from Coupang websites, mobile apps & other supporting systems. Using Coupang’s big data infrastructure on AWS, we collect, load, process the logs, and build trends, customer journey, and funnel metrics using a self-serve analytics portal. This will help our business stakeholders to analyze the user behavior of their campaigns. The team's goal is to boost the productivity of analytics teams throughout Coupang by reducing the need of building SQL statements for both surface-level analytics and complex analysis. This platform will enable users such as Business Analysts, Product Owners, and other business users to build insights and better understand customer behavior on both Coupang websites (PC-browser and Mobile Web) and apps (Android and iOS).

Job Description

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, with preferred domain knowledge of building an analytics platform, to help our business partners move fast in making their decisions. You will have the opportunity to tackle large-scale challenges that arise as we grow. This includes building in-house technology, innovating mobile architecture, and advancing possibilities with machine learning and deep learning. Key Responsibilities:

As a Staff Back End Engineer, you will architect, build and maintain next-generation solutions for Coupang's analytical needs. You will be working closely with Product Managers, User Researchers under Customer Experience, Product Analytics and Decision science teams to boost their productivity by building tools that can reduce the time taken for analyzing data. You will help these teams in providing easy and secure access to data using GUIs and standardizing metrics definitions throughout the company. You will also play a key role in managing and improving log metadata for data discovery & governance.

Qualifications:

• • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of relevant industry experience with distributed systems, transactional datastores, and systems programming.
  • 6+ years of solid work with fundamental algorithms, system design, and large distributed systems
  • 6+ years of coding experience in one of the following:  C++, Java, Scala
  • Experience in building and owning critical user-facing API platform and corresponding backend data systems, and solving complex design, scaling, latency, or performance problems in high-volume low-latency distributed systems.
  • Strong communication skills and great product sense.
  • Strong passion for building products.
  • Strong ownership and having experience working in an early startup is a plus.
  • Scrappy and willing to take risks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• • Experience in the development of click-stream/client-side log data collection & analysis tools.
  • Experience in the development of data governance/compliance applications.
  • Experience in the development of complex data visualization tools.
  • Experience in using AWS products.
  • Experience in data processing with Spark & Airflow
  • Experience in real-time data processing with Flink & ClickHouse

Pay & Benefits   

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. 

The base pay for this position ranges from $159,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $324,000/year   in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
