Role Overview

Coupang’s Rocket Growth Engineering Team is responsible for building the next generation fulfillment by Coupang platform. This allows sellers to make the widest possible selection of high quality items available to Coupang's customers at competitive prices and in a convenient manner. We are building full-stack engineering teams to scale up our systems for the vast and growing selection.

This role requires leading one of the most critical systems that will ingest millions of events related to inventory inside the supply chain; thus enabling a quality experience for our sellers from order fulfillment, inventory tracking, to settlements. We provide intelligence for sellers to optimize their selection, prices, and fulfillment experience to Coupang’s customer needs; enabling Coupang to become most trusted selling platform. We are looking for a leader who has previous E-commerce leadership experience and has led distributed systems development.

Description:

Our mission is to provide Coupang sellers the utmost convenience of selling and offer Coupang customers the best available selection and the lowest possible price.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment along with a team of smart and passionate global engineers to design and implement various systems to meet the needs of the Rocket Growth business. You will also have direct ownership of new features for improving the Rocket Growth scalability, reliability, availability, extensibility, and performance. We care about both delighting customers and building high-quality software, and we are looking for senior engineers with proven track records of designing and building large scale distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, own, and maintain large-scale distributed systems.
  • Establish and execute short and long-term design and architectural roadmaps for the business.
  • Continue to innovate on the platform to support Rocket Growth programs.
  • Drive continual improvement to the efficiency and flexibility of the business platform, while keeping a high bar for customer trust, performance, and availability.
  • Provide technical direction to junior engineers on the team.
  • Dive deep into critical system issues, proactively addressing similar root causes; and raise the bar on Operational Excellence.
  • Collaborate with other Coupang tech leaders to make the service extensible to help unlock opportunities for innovations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Expert in one of the programming languages JAVA, C#.
  • Good understanding of message queues like Kafka.
  • At least 7+ years of experience in designing and developing scalable, highly available services developed in Java and database environments.
  • At least 2+ years being a technical lead handling large volume of data transactions.
  • Proven track record of delivering mission critical systems.
  • Experience developing and growing senior individual contributors globally.
  • Experience with cloud computing using AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Proven ability to set a 'technology vision' by working backwards from customer needs, along with delivering innovative solutions.
  • Ability to think strategically, with exceptional skills in diving deep and raising the bar on engineering & operational excellence.
  • Proven delivery of technology innovations for E-commerce Marketplace Sellers.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and lead the delivery of large-scale services for complex business offerings.
  • Ability to influence cross functional stakeholders, prioritize ruthlessly, and Aim High and Find a Way to deliver results with grit.
Pay & Benefits 
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $142,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $309,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
