Job Summary

The Systems Architect – Human Factors supports the strategic vision of Corewell Health by designing and co-executing innovative and transformative approaches to the complex problems that challenge the organization. Focus will be on identifying, designing, and co-driving the needed projects, programs and assignments throughout the organization aimed at improving operational and clinical reliability and achieving measurable results. They will work closely with clinical and operational leadership and throughout the system to identify opportunities and develop the transformational portfolio of work in line with top strategic focus areas.

Essential Functions

Create Clarity and Structure from Complex, Ambiguous Problems

  • Transform loosely defined ideas into organized, actionable concepts by synthesizing requirements, operational needs, strategic priorities, and system capabilities.
  • Build shared understanding through strong relationships and the ability to connect disparate concepts across the organization.

Shape Transformation Strategy and Future‑State Direction

  • Analyze emerging capabilities, industry trends, and organizational needs to inform current‑ and future‑state transformation strategies.
  • Document and communicate direction in clear, compelling ways that guide leaders and teams.

Design and Co‑Lead Enterprise‑Level Improvement Initiatives

  • Lead and co‑lead innovative improvement projects that deliver measurable operational and clinical performance results.
  • Partner with cross‑functional leaders to ensure initiatives are aligned with strategic priorities and system needs.

Collaborate and Influence Across Networks

  • Work with leaders and team members across formal and informal networks to foster alignment, strengthen cross‑functional collaboration, and drive portfolio progress.
  • Provide informal leadership and guidance to teams outside the immediate department.

Develop and Maintain Strategic Architecture and Roadmaps

  • Build and maintain work portfolios, conceptual models, frameworks, and process roadmaps that communicate system direction and support strategic decision‑making.
  • Use these tools to guide teams toward desired outcomes and ensure alignment with broader objectives.

Advance and Standardize Enterprise Processes

  • Develop, refine, and spread enterprise processes that support reliability and human‑centered systems performance.
  • Collaborate with leadership, architects, and engineers to ensure standards are consistent, aligned to guiding principles, and integrated across the organization.

Analyze and Improve Systems and Workflows

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing systems and processes using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Implement improvements that enhance alignment, enable performance, and support sustainable, repeatable, and measurable clinical and business functions.

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and Organizational Resource

  • Provide expertise, education, coaching, and mentorship on human factors, systems engineering, and related areas.
  • Support capability‑building efforts across the organization through training and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Process or Industrial Engineering; Human Kinetics/Kinesiology; Human Factors or Ergonomics Engineering; Product Design; Systems Engineering; Organizational Design; Organizational Psychology; Sociology; Economics; or related field
  • 15 years of deep experience and competence leading and coaching in improvement initiatives, training programs, and developing large scale programs/portfolios/roadmaps of work
  • Deep experience with process improvement, project management, change management and/or systems engineering/design methodologies, including the ability to train others

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Process or Industrial Engineering; Human Kinetics/Kinesiology; Human Factors or Ergonomics Engineering; Product Design; Systems Engineering; Organizational Design; Organizational Psychology; Sociology; Economics; or related field
  • Experience with human centered design frameworks for problem solving, human factors design tools and methods, and/or design thinking methodologies
  • Experience with organizational design theory, agile teaming/agile transformation, matrixed organizing for agile work
  • Research methods and product design experience
  • CRT-Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (CSSBB) - within 1 year after hire
