Description

We are currently seeking a talented Cloud Engineer (CE) who is looking to work as part of a successful global organisation that is widely recognised as a world expert in the delivery of high quality software content and rights solutions to the publishing and media sector.

We are looking for individuals with a proven track record in provisioning and configuring infrastructure and dependent services for business-critical applications to defined timescales. The role offers scope to deploy knowledge in existing environments whilst learning new technologies and provides the opportunity to work with renowned organizations.

Cloud Engineers are hybrid systems and software engineers who are responsible for and take ownership of reliability, automation, and other issues related to 'keeping the lights on' in our various platforms. Cloud Engineers are integrated within the Infrastructure and System Architecture team, and we count on our CEs to empower our users with a rich feature set, high availability, and stellar performance level to pursue their missions.

While the position will be based in Finland (remote), you will be expected to work with teams distributed across the globe in Massachusetts (US), London (England), Sevilla (Spain), and Cluj (Romania).  As a Cloud Engineer you will ensure that our various distributed systems are scalable, monitored, automated and performing optimally.  Working within the Systems Architecture practice means you are expected to own production environments – from the operational phase to ensuring continuous high availability, so you should be comfortable working alongside other engineers to help fix and debug issues with production environments. It is expected you will be contributing back to the overall design and feedback loop for continual improvement.

You will use your demonstrated programming and systems experience and a variety of technologies to tackle critical problems and help us scale. You’ll be embedded in the team, and you’ll dig deep into performance, scalability, capacity, and reliability problems to help us resolve them.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing and applying standards and best in class technologies to meet business objectives on technology projects, evaluating the impact on integration, reliability, performance, scalability, flexibility, and maintainability.
  • Ensuring ongoing protection of systems and data using modern security tooling and processes.
  • Participating in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrating a high level of comfort communicating, collaborating, and influencing across large cross-functional delivery teams, which may include product owners, scrum masters, business analysts, and software developers.
  • Evaluating, and architecting solutions used to build Infrastructure with Terraform or other infrastructure as Code (IaC) Framework.
  • Creating sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts
  • Implementing best practices for our cloud-based systems including logging, monitoring, deployment & data management
  • Identifying and recommending new solutions for research and participate in proof-of-concept activities to continually optimize our cloud strategy.
  • Balancing feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives
  • Accountable for other results and activities as assigned.

What you will need to have:

  • Experiene designing and running production workloads in AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with core AWS services, including running containers on ECS and functions on Lambda.
  • Configuration Management, Automation, Orchestration, and associated tooling: e.g.   Chef / Puppet
  • Strong skills with scripting languages: Bash, Python, Ruby, Go
  • Programming: Java or equivalent
  • Automated services provisioning: e.g. Terraform / CDK / CloudFormation.
  • Ability to design and build CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or CodePipeline/Build/Deploy
  • Containerization technologies: e.g. Docker / Kubernetes
  • Centralized logging and monitoring.
  • Administration of Linux Servers: (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Amazon Linux etc.)
  • Experience with the AWS Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption frameworks
  • 2-4 years direct experience
  • Degree level education
  • Security analysis and application of good practice.
  • Experience in implementing NPM and APM monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Evidence of business-continuity and disaster-recovery operation
  • AWS Solution Architecture certification is a plus
