About the Role:

As a Principal Developer Advocate, you'll work closely with your teammates in Developer Relations, Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure that application and data teams everywhere can thrive in the new event-driven world. 
You are self-motivated, empathetic, and collaborative, and able to juggle multiple active projects in collaboration with various stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Developer Advocacy and DevRel Engineering, you will be expected to help drive team strategy, create world-class content, and mentor junior team members in the same.

As a remote employee who will spend up to 35% of your time traveling, you will help the Developer Relations team advance its goal to make Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and Confluent famous among developers.

What You Will Do:

• As a key player in the team, you will develop and execute creative and innovative approaches to drive developer engagement and adoption of Confluent’s Data Streaming Platform and underlying technologies, including Kafka, Flink, and Iceberg
• Not only will you produce and distribute compelling technical content, such as instructional videos, blog posts, and tutorials, but you will also have the opportunity to contribute to traditional marketing activities like webinars and in-person events
• Engage with developers through various digital channels like Slack, Confluent’s Forum, and more, helping to foster a vibrant community in each
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, and Engineering to align advocacy efforts with company goals
• Represent the company at industry events and conferences, driving thought leadership through technically compelling content presented in world-class form
• Build compelling demos showing how to use data streaming technologies with actual code

What You Will Bring:

• 5+ years of experience in developer advocacy in the data streaming or infrastructure ecosystem.
• 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience in modern programming languages like Java, Rust, Go, JavaScript/Typescript
• A reputation as a well-known speaker and writer
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences (from grassroots developers to C-suite)
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals
• Proven ability to build and nurture community relationships
• Extensive and recognized public speaking and content creation experience

• Experience organizing developer events like meetups, hackathons, and hands-on workshops

We analyze and carefully consider several factors when determining compensation, including work history, education, professional experience, and location. This position has an annual estimated salary of $204,000- $244,800, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
