Job Summary and Responsibilities

The System VP/Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Care Transformation and Population Health is a physician leader responsible for providing strategic clinical leadership and informatics expertise to drive the development, implementation, and optimization of technology-enabled solutions that transform care delivery across the health system. This role will focus on leveraging technology to support innovative care models, expand access to care through telehealth, and improve population health outcomes. This role will serve as a key liaison between clinical stakeholders, IT, and executive leadership, ensuring that clinical perspectives are integrated into all technology-related decisions and that technology effectively supports the evolving needs of the organization in the areas of care transformation, telehealth, and population health management.

 

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership:


Develop and execute a system-wide clinical informatics strategy specifically aligned with care transformation, telehealth, and population health initiatives.  Identify, evaluate, and champion the adoption of emerging technologies and innovative care delivery models that can improve patient outcomes, enhance access to care, and reduce costs.  Lead the development and implementation of clinical decision support tools, remote patient monitoring programs, and other technology-enabled solutions to support care transformation and population health management.  Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement strategies for telehealth expansion, virtual care delivery, and remote patient engagement.  Champion the use of data analytics and reporting to monitor clinical performance, identify areas for improvement, and support quality improvement initiatives related to telehealth and population health.

 

Telehealth Program Development and Expansion:


Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive telehealth strategy, including the selection of appropriate technologies, the development of clinical workflows, and the training of clinicians.  Identify opportunities to expand telehealth services to new patient populations and clinical specialties.  Ensure that telehealth services are integrated with the organization's EHR and other clinical information systems.  Monitor the performance of telehealth programs and identify opportunities for improvement.

 

Population Health Management:

 

Lead the development and implementation of technology solutions to support population health management initiatives, such as risk stratification, care coordination, and patient engagement.  Assist in utilizing data analytics to identify high-risk patients and develop targeted interventions.  Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to develop and implement strategies to improve population health outcomes.  Ensure that population health data is integrated with the organization's EHR and other clinical information systems.

 

Care Transformation Initiatives:


Actively participate in and lead clinical informatics aspects of care transformation initiatives, such as accountable care organizations (ACOs), patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs), and bundled payment programs.  Ensure that clinical technologies are aligned with the program and regulatory requirements of value-based care models.  Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to develop and implement strategies to improve care coordination and patient engagement.

 

Clinical Liaison and Stakeholder Engagement:

 

Serve as a primary point of contact for clinical stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, regarding clinical information systems and technology related to care transformation, telehealth, and population health.  Facilitate communication and collaboration between clinical and IT teams to ensure that technology solutions meet the needs of clinicians and patients.  Lead and participate in clinical informatics committees and workgroups, providing clinical expertise and guidance. Advocate for the needs of clinicians and patients in the design, development, and implementation of clinical information systems.

 

Data Governance and Quality:


Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of clinical data within the organization's information systems, particularly as it relates to telehealth and population health.  Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.  Promote the use of standardized terminologies and coding systems to facilitate data exchange and interoperability.

 

Research and Innovation:


Promote and support research and innovation in clinical informatics, telehealth, and population health.  Identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve patient engagement and satisfaction.  Stay abreast of the latest research and developments in clinical informatics, healthcare technology, telehealth, and population health.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

Education Level:  

  • Doctor Of Medicine. Medical Degree (MD or DO) required
  • Master's degree in Medical Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred.

 

Experience Details:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role in clinical informatics. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing clinical information system implementations, particularly in telehealth and population health settings.  
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs), telehealth platforms and population health management tools.  
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting tools.  
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in clinical practice.
