We are currently seeking a Lead Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps) engineer to join our rapidly growing Financial Operations team within our Cloud Centre of Excellence. Key Responsibilities
Lead Cloud FinOps engineers should have a very good working knowledge (10 to 12 years plus) of leading work on SQL and data ETL (extract, transform, and load) pipelines and functions using cloud tools to ingest data from several sources. This role requires experience in providing technical leadership in constructing data ingest, warehousing, analysis, and visualization solutions. This role also requires advanced understanding of various Cloud products across both AWS and GCP, how they are used and billed, and how the configuration of these products can be optimised. The ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences is also essential.
What you will do
- Provide technical leadership to a team using Python (or other high-level languages) and cloud tools (e.g., Google Dataflow) to create data ETL pipelines and functions to ingest and manipulate Public Cloud cost and usage data from various sources into a data warehouse and/or data lake/ or data lake house solution.
- Write complex SQL queries to be used with data warehouse or data lake house products to analyse Public Cloud spend data, and oversee others doing the same, providing those others with technical guidance as necessary.
- Lead efforts to create data pipelines and SQL queries to use spend data to create forecast models for budgeting and to identify deviation from agreed forecasts.
- Be responsible for the code used to visualise cloud spend analysis data in multiple dashboards that will be created using one or more data visualization and/or business intelligence tools (Google Looker, Microsoft Power BI etc.).
- Lead efforts to develop code that takes the output of cloud tools that make recommendations about how cloud products can be optimized and presents these recommendations back to users of Public Cloud services across Sky Group.
- Be responsible for writing, maintaining, and documenting the code that is used to control the cost recharge and chargeback processes for Public Cloud services at Sky.
What you will bring
- Experience in leading teams writing data ingest and ETL pipelines.
- Experience in leading teams working with data warehouse and data lake house technologies, and in writing the pipelines to manipulate data within, between, and across them.
- Advanced experience in the design and delivery of SQL based data solutions and in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries to analyse business data.
- Advanced proficiency in using Python (or another high-level programming language) and/or cloud-based tools to create data pipelines for extract, transform, and load.
- Ability to analyse SQL based data stores and to propose optimisations for data both structures and SQL queries.
- Experience in using visualization and Business Intelligence tools (Data Studio, Looker, Quicksight Power BI etc.) to create cost and spend dashboards.
