Organization & Team Overview
The Video IP Engineering & Research (VIPER) Packager organization is a group of world-class experts who are innovating in end-to-end video delivery over IP. We are a group that thrives on big challenges, results, quality, and agility. Within this group, you will be working within the control plane team, which focuses on automating the deployment and observability of each of the applications that contribute to delivering video over IP.
Role Description
As a software engineer on the Control Plane team within the Video IP Engineering & Research (VIPER) organization, you will focus on applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles (software and systems engineering) to VIPER’s applications that make video delivery over IP possible.
In your role, you will focus on how to take complicated tasks and automate them in such a way that developers and operators are satisfied with the ease of operation and observability within the product you have built.
What are some interesting problems the student will work on?
In your role, you will bridge the gap between development and operations. This will involve automating manual processes to reduce toil, maintaining systems vital to the operations team to know if the system is behaving as expected, ensuring that the proper systems and metrics exist to grant visibility into our systems, identifying areas of weakness within our systems and proposing and implementing a solution that the team agrees with, and performing root-cause-analysis of failure events and automating the detection and remediation of said events.
Where can this student make an impact?
You’ll be working with people who are passionate about applying automation to deployment and observability while we transition to one interface for application deployment and observability. Success in this role is characterized by moving scattered deployment and observability views to a more centralized flow that represents a single point of entry to the system.
