Senior Test Engineer

The Role
The Automation/Test Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, communicating, and executing manufacturing, integration, and test operations for high-performance optical transceiver automation testers.
The role focuses on developing reliable automation and test solutions, integrating hardware and software, verifying system performance, supporting tester qualification and maintenance, and continuously improving test-system robustness and cost effectiveness.
What you will be doing...
- Collect and understand automation tester requirements from requestors and translate them into appropriate technical solutions.
- Investigate required features and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, discuss, and review solutions.
- Prepare detailed design reports and develop hardware and automation architecture as part of system design.
- Identify and purchase equipment required to implement approved tester designs.
- Collaborate with software engineers to complete software applications and hardware/software integration.
- Complete hardware and automation assembly, integration, and debugging according to project schedules.
- Perform fixture and electrical verification as well as software logic verification.
- Complete qualification testing in accordance with company requirements.
- Develop and maintain work instructions for automation testers.
- Improve and optimize test systems to increase robustness and support cost-reduction initiatives.
- Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of automated test equipment.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, information systems, and metrics.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, quality, ergonomic, Technology Control Plan, IP protection, Export Compliance, SOX, IT, and Quality requirements.
- Support special projects as required and provide project updates and recommendations to management.
- Maintain high standards of quality, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
About You
- Master’s degree in Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of relevant automation and/or test industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of test systems, with experience in optics or system networking.
- Experience in hardware/software integration is strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to recommend and implement technical and process improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with networked PC-based computer systems.
- Good understanding of automation and electronics.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as USB, I2C, SPI, and GPIB is preferred.
- Proficient in PLC programming and system debugging, particularly with Rockwell AB, Siemens, and Beckhoff platforms.
- Familiar with EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, and common industrial bus communication protocols.
- Experience in automated production-line electrical design, motion-control tuning, servo synchronization, and closed-loop tension control.
- Familiar with industrial vision-system integration, including barcode reading, feature recognition, and position-offset compensation for robotic palletizing systems.
- Understanding of high-speed digital data concepts is an advantage.
- Additional programming skills, such as database setup and interfacing or numerical analysis, are an advantage.
- Familiar with statistical tools such as Minitab or equivalent, including Gage R&R and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Ability to manage multiple internal and external priorities effectively.
- Ability to excel within a cross-organizational, cross-cultural, and global team environment.
