Senior RF Engineer

Location: Jarfalla, Sweden

Coherent is a global leader in photonics, developing advanced laser, optical and materials technologies that enable semiconductor manufacturing, AI infrastructure, advanced communications and precision industrial applications worldwide.

In Sweden, our teams operate the country’s only full-scale indium phosphide wafer fabrication facility. Here, we design, manufacture and test some of the world’s fastest optical chips under one roof, supporting AI infrastructure, data centres and global communications networks.

The Role:

You will be responsible for the RF evaluation and characterisation of high-speed optoelectronic and semiconductor components, working hands-on within our engineering test laboratory.

This role combines RF measurement, device characterisation, test development and data analysis, giving you the opportunity to work closely with Product Verification, Design, Test Development and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

You will also act as an RF technical expert within the laboratory, helping develop measurement capabilities, improve products and technologies, and share your expertise across the wider engineering organisation.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform hands-on RF measurements and device characterisation at wafer, chip and chip-on-carrier level.
  • Lead the development, refinement and evaluation of RF measurement methods, procedures and engineering test setups.
  • Design and implement dedicated RF test structures to extract device characteristics and support model development.
  • Analyse measurement data, correlate practical results with simulations and provide structured technical feedback to Design teams.
  • Specify, plan and coordinate test samples and prototype development in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Act as an RF technical expert within the laboratory and maintain strong technical competence in RF and high-speed device characterisation.
  • Develop clear technical documentation to support product development, engineering activities and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to continuous product and technology improvements, including supporting production-related processes where required.
  • Identify and promote new component technologies, measurement methodologies and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor and support colleagues across Product Verification, Design and Test Development by sharing technical knowledge and expertise.

About You:

You are a hands-on RF engineer who enjoys working in the laboratory, developing measurement methods and using experimental data to understand and improve high-speed semiconductor and optoelectronic devices.

You will ideally bring:

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience within optoelectronics, semiconductor devices, RF engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of RF measurements and high-speed optoelectronic or semiconductor device characterisation.
  • Hands-on experience within an RF or optoelectronic test laboratory.
  • Experience with test and measurement equipment, laboratory hardware and test automation for semiconductor device characterisation.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • The ability to correlate practical measurement results with theoretical simulations and modelling.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to share technical knowledge effectively.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work across Engineering, Product Verification, Manufacturing Engineering and other technical functions.

Ensure adherence to company’s values (ICARE) in all aspects of your position:

🤝 Integrity – Create an Environment of Trust

✨ Collaboration – Innovate Through the Sharing of Ideas

🎯 Accountability – Own the Process and the Outcome

🌍 Respect – Recognize the Value in Everyone

What We Offer

  • A supportive, professional and international working environment.
  • The opportunity to work within an innovation-driven company at the forefront of advanced photonics and semiconductor technology.
  • Subsidised massage at the office.
  • The possibility of quarterly or annual bonus programmes.
  • A generous wellness allowance and access to health-promoting activities.
