Lead Engineer, Supplier Compliance

Location: Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Duties & Responsibilities

 

1) Supplier Onboarding Compliance: Manage Coherent’s supplier risk databases using third party risk and screening tools.

  • Drive 3rd party’s comprehensive supplier risk assessments, covering ethics & compliance, cybersecurity, trade compliance, and sustainability perspectives.
  • Review supplier screening results on 3rd party’s platform and route supplier profiles to the appropriate stakeholders for risk assessment and approval.
  • Monitor and follow up on approvals in 3rd party’s system and Oracle Workflow to ensure supplier onboarding and compliance reviews are completed on time.
  • Provide first-level support to Procurement users by responding to inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with the support team to resolve escalated cases.
  • Generate risk alerts based on assessment result and severity. 
  • Contributes to the development and execution of supply chain risk management strategy, embedding compliance and predictive risk forecasting into core processes.

 

2) New Supplier Qualification Assessment: Participate in new supplier qualification audits and drive CAPAs.

  • Assess supplier’s environmental regulatory compliance, ethics & social compliance, and security practices.
  • Discuss audit results with supplier quality engineers and commodity managers and provide decision basis for supplier qualification or supplier strategy development.
  • Drive suppliers’ corrective actions and preventive actions (CAPA) to mitigate risks of regulatory compliance and materials supply disruptions.
  • Support periodic re-diligence of in-service suppliers, detect abnormal operation or violations, and keep continuous improvements.

 

3) Supplier Social & Environmental Compliance Audit: Implement social & environmental audits and drive CAPAs.

  • Do preliminary risk assessments to classify risk level of top-spend suppliers.
  • Schedule and perform two-day social & environmental audit at supplier facility independently.
  • Analyze audit findings, prepare detailed reports, highlight areas of non-compliance, provide practical recommendations for improvement, and set follow-up timelines for suppliers to address issues.
  • Track supplier’s corrective & preventive actions (CAPAs) and verify closure status.

 

Qualification & Requirements

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Supply Chain Management, engineering, Laws, or related fields.

 

Experience:

  • 8+ years of strong experience in social & environmental compliance, supplier due diligence or related supply chains with exposure to risk management scope. 
  • This role demands a proactive approach to supplier engagement, risk assessment, and implementation of compliance controls and audits aligned with international ethical sourcing standards.

 

Job Skills & Competencies:

  • Good document sorting, information verification and logical analysis ability; careful, rigorous and risk-sensitive working style.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present insights confidently.
  • Capable of performing risk assessment and audits independently.
  • Strategic, proactive, and able to lead projects independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Skilled in identifying and mitigating supply chain risks.
  • Familiar with international compliance & ethical sourcing standards, regulatory requirements, and CSR due diligence practices.
  • Understanding of compliance & sustainability frameworks and solid experience in assessment and audit.
  • Effective communicator with experience engaging executive-level stakeholders and cooperating cross-departmentally.
  • Strong English skills and global perspective with experience across regions and awareness of diverse market and regulatory environments.

 

Work Condition and Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment. 
  • Up to 30% of (domestic/international) travel may be required to support onsite audits.
