Automation Engineer

Department: R&D

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom, Manchester, Hybrid

CMap is a fast-growing software company helping project-based businesses win, deliver, and manage work… profitably.

At our core, we’re a software company. That that means engineering excellence matters to us. We’re focused on building clean, scalable, high-performing systems that solve real problems for our users.

Our engineering team is trusted to make smart technical decisions, contribute to product thinking, and continuously raise the bar. We invest in quality, not just speed, and we create space for learning, innovation, and doing things the right way.

We’re proud of our product and even prouder of our people. Collaboration, openness, and input from across the business drive both our culture and our success. We keep things friendly and informal, but we’re serious about building something great together.

What we're looking for:

Most automation roles hand you a backlog of tests to write. This one hands you the blueprint.

We’re looking for an Automation Engineer to design and build how CMap tests its software. You’ll shape our Playwright framework, turn repetitive manual testing into fast, reliable automated checks, and build the tools that help our whole QA team work smarter. If you’re the kind of engineer who sees a manual process and thinks “I could build something for that”, we’d love to hear from you.

You will:

Review how we test today, then design and build our Playwright automation framework.
Automate our most repetitive manual regression scenarios and get them running reliably in the pipeline.
Build internal test tooling, such as test data seeding, that speeds up testing across the business.
Make the framework easy for our QA team to extend, and coach them on how to think about automation.
Bring your own ideas. We want you telling us what we should be doing next.

What you'll need to succeed:

A background where test automation has been your main focus
Experience designing and building automation frameworks from scratch, ideally for SaaS or web apps
Strong hands-on Playwright experience
A developer’s mindset and comfort working in .NET
The ability to explain technical decisions clearly to developers and testers alike
Smart, practical use of AI tools in your day-to-day engineering
Mobile app automation experience is a bonus.

What we offer:

Private medical & dental insurance: Supporting your health and wellbeing with access to private care.
Life assurance: Providing extra financial security for you and your loved ones.
EV Salary Sacrifice: It's like a cycle-to-work scheme, but for electric vehicles. You give up some of your pre-tax salary, and we give you an EV, with lots more you need to get on the road.
Help@Hand: 24/7 support for your health and wellbeing.
Enhanced parental leave: Offering time and support when it matters most.
Reward Gateway: Access to discounts on a wide range of everyday purchases.
Team outings and events: Regular chances to connect and unwind.
Manchester city-centre office: A modern space with great facilities including in office Gym and Changing rooms
