About the Role

A seed-stage AI-powered healthtech startup is hiring a Founding Engineer to join a small, fast-moving team building software that modernizes billing and operations for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role that blends hands-on full-stack engineering with direct customer collaboration — helping paramedics get paid and protecting essential 911 services.

You'll work closely with the founding team in a hybrid setup, in-person in San Francisco 2–3 days per week.

What You'll Do

• Own end-to-end development: architecture, code, deployment, and on-call responsibility.

• Build customer-facing features informed by direct conversations with billers, fire chiefs, and operations leaders.

• Ship automation that reduces manual work and saves agencies significant revenue.

• Make product and design tradeoffs with a strong UX sensibility.

• Iterate rapidly: deploy, learn from customers, and improve continuously.

• Collaborate closely with a tight-knit founding team across product, engineering, and operations.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 1–3 years of experience building full-stack products end-to-end.

• Proficiency in React with strong product and UX sensibilities for customer-facing UI.

• Experience building and shipping end-to-end frontend and backend features interacting with APIs.

• Familiarity with APIs, LLMs, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.

• Strong CS fundamentals, high attention to detail, and clear communication skills.

• Comfort translating customer needs into technical deliverables.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Go, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud.

• Background in EMS, 911 dispatch, healthcare, or insurance billing/revenue cycle management.

• NREMT certification.

• Prior experience as a founder or founding engineer.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $120,000 – $190,000 USD annually, depending on experience.

• Early-stage equity commensurate with a founding team role.

Location

• Hybrid — San Francisco, CA.

• In-person presence expected 2–3 days per week; remote the remainder.
