About our Company
Government’s biggest challenges — homelessness, election administration, emergency response — aren’t solved by a single agency. Work happens across dozens of organizations that often struggle to coordinate and act in real time.
Civic Roundtable is a government operations platform that helps public servants do exactly that. We give wide networks of agencies and partner organizations the tools to consolidate information, coordinate mission-critical work, and move faster together so the people on the frontlines of public problems have what they need to serve their communities.
Trusted by 4,000+ organizations across all 50 states, Civic Roundtable emerged from the Harvard Innovation Labs and is backed by General Catalyst.
About the Role
We're looking for a founding infrastructure engineer to own our cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, security, and compliance. As our first and only platform hire, your goal will be to enable engineers to move fast with confidence, while meeting the high standards of government technology.
This role will report to and work closely with our Head of Engineering.
What You'll Own
Platform & infrastructure – AWS GovCloud, Terraform codebase, reliability, performance, and cost
Developer tooling – CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions), local dev environment setup, and AI-enablement across the team
Security & compliance – SOC 2 audits, NIST alignment, pen test coordination, access reviews, policy maintenance, and pursuit of additional authorizations
Internal IT – the lightweight day-to-day (password resets, device issues) that keeps the team unblocked
Automation & efficiency – finding manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes across the team and automating them away
What You'll Support
Technical pre-sales – occasional prospect calls and security questionnaires, partnering with our go-to-market team
Technical services – ad hoc support for customer requests like SSO or DNS setup, partnering with our deployments team
Product engineering – infrastructure and scaling input for new product surfaces, partnering with our product managers and engineering leads
About You
We’re excited about people who:
Prefer autonomy (and the ambiguity that comes with it) to explicit direction
Notice broken systems and instinctively want to improve them
Write exceptionally well and communicate clearly under pressure
Can independently own multiple priorities and know when to loop others in
Thrive in early-stage environments where the job changes week-to-week
Care about making government work better for the people it serves
We’re hoping you have:
5+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, platform, or security engineering roles
High confidence with AWS, Terraform, and Github Actions
Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, FedRAMP, NIST, CJIS, HIPAA, or similar)
Fluency with AI – for your own IaC, to enable product engineers, and to automate systems across the company
Why You’ll Love Working @ Civic Roundtable
You'll have a competitive salary, meaningful equity, health benefits, and flexible work arrangements as part of our first 30 employees
You'll play a direct role in making government more effective and efficient
You'll build a foundational function from scratch and shape its direction
You'll work on infrastructure that matters – government-grade with real stakes
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. If you’re passionate about building great products and making a difference, we want to hear from you!
