Graduate Engineer/ Engineer in Training

Location: Water/WW

Department: Water

Pay Range:

Graduate Engineer - $28.84 - $ 37.49/hr.

Engineer-In-Training - $31.52 - $40.98/hr.

Join one of America’s fastest‑growing large cities as a Graduate Engineer or Engineer-in-Training in the City of Fort Worth’s Water Utility – Capital Delivery Section. In this impactful role, you’ll support the planning, analysis, and design of water and wastewater projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Engineer–In-Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • The possession of registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) in the State of Texas; or, if licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as an Engineer-In-Training within the State of Texas within six months of employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work or internship experience with a municipality, water/sewer engineering consultant, or development industry
  • Engineer-in-Training certification
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Exceptional customer service, time management, communication, and writing skills

The Capital Delivery Graduate Engineer/Engineer in Training job responsibilities include: 

  • Jump into real city engineering projects where you get to help keep water flowing and sewer systems running smoothly
  • Review and compare construction bids, crunch cost estimates, and check out change orders—kind of like being the project’s financial detective
  • Handle a mix of phone calls, emails, and questions from all kinds of people. You’ll research real engineering challenges and help solve them, so you’ll never be bored.
  • Team up with construction inspectors to decode plans, troubleshoot surprises in the field, and make sure final project plans actually match what was built
  • Head out for field inspections to see projects up close and confirm everything is being built the way it’s supposed to. Yes—real boots‑on‑the‑ground engineering
  • Work directly with a Senior Professional Engineer, meaning you get mentorship and hands‑on learning
