RPA/Python Developer - Assistant Vice President

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position seeking a highly skilled and strategic Senior Automation & Application Development Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge RPA and Python-based automation solutions. This role requires a strong foundation in application development lifecycle management, IT planning, and risk assessment, coupled with deep expertise in Robotic Process Automation, Python and emerging AI skills. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving efficiency, scalability, and innovation across our business processes, while upholding the highest standards of technical excellence and compliance within a regulated environment.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, time, and cost estimates for new IT initiatives and automation projects.
• Contribute to IT planning and strategy, identifying opportunities to leverage automation and emerging technologies to meet specific business needs.
• Assess and mitigate technology risks associated with application development and automation deployments.
• Lead the design, development, configuration, and deployment of end-to-end RPA and Python-based automation solutions, ensuring alignment with business and IT architectural standards.
• Develop and configure bots primarily using Automation Anywhere, and concurrently build and maintain robust Python-based automation solutions (e.g., using Selenium, Robot Framework, or similar libraries).
• Oversee all phases of the development process: analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation for both traditional applications and automation workflows.
• Actively lead the migration of existing Automation Anywhere bots into Python-based automation frameworks, focusing on redesign, optimization, and reusability improvements.
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development and automation to analyze complex problems/issues, providing evaluative judgment on business and system processes.
• Analyze existing bot implementations and identify opportunities for simplification, scalability, and performance enhancements, translating business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
• Lead design decisions for automation architectures, mentor junior developers, and drive the adoption of software engineering best practices for modular, reusable, and maintainable automation frameworks.
• Perform rigorous code reviews, testing, and validation of all automation workflows and application components.
• Provide expert user and operational support on applications and automation solutions to business users, troubleshooting and resolving production issues with minimal disruption.
• Monitor, support, and optimize bots in production environments to ensure continuous functionality and efficiency.
• Develop reusable frameworks and components for automation, fostering a culture of efficiency and technical excellence.
• Contribute to RPA governance, standards, and best practices, ensuring essential procedures are followed and helping define operating standards and processes.
• Recommend and develop robust security measures in post-implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality, implementing security, credential management, and access controls.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security and data privacy standards across all developed applications and automation solutions.
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on complex issues, recommending advanced programming solutions and assisting with customer exposure systems.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to senior stakeholders and other team members, serving as an advisor or coach to new or lower-level analysts.
• Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
• Stay current with advancements in RPA, Python automation, and emerging AI-driven automation trends to continuously enhance capabilities and strategic offerings.
• Ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision, exercising independence of judgment and autonomy.
• Demonstrated experience as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in both application development and automation technologies.
• Proven track record of appropriately assessing and managing risks in a complex financial services environment.

Recommended Qualifications:

• 5-8 years of relevant experience
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications
• Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
• Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods
• Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

• Strong hands-on expertise in Automation Anywhere (required)
• Strong Python programming skills (required)
• Experience building automation using Selenium, Robot Framework, or similar frameworks
• Experience migrating or re-engineering RPA bots into Python-based solutions (highly preferred / key differentiator)
• Experience modernizing legacy RPA implementations into code-driven automation frameworks is highly preferred. 
• Experience in AI tools (e.g., Claude Code/Devin) and integration in RPA implementations is highly preferred
