Java Kafka APIGEE-Assistant Vice President

We are seeking a forward-thinking Senior Developer (C12) with a strong analytical and technical background and over 8 years of experience in building enterprise-grade applications. The ideal candidate will possess an AI-first mindset, expertly leveraging cutting-edge AI tools like Devin, Claude Code, and proprietary Citi AI platforms to pioneer the next generation of software solutions. This role is focused on developing resilient and scalable microservices and REST APIs deployed on modern cloud platforms (ECS, APIGEE, Cloud), connected through high-throughput messaging systems like Kafka.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of sophisticated, cloud-native microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
- Champion an AI-first development culture, actively using AI coding assistants (Devin, Claude Code) and internal Citi AI tools to accelerate development, enhance code quality, and solve complex problems.
- Architect and implement event-driven systems using Kafka for real-time data processing and inter-service communication.
- Deploy, manage, and scale applications on containerized platforms like ECS using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Design, secure, and manage APIs using APIGEE, ensuring robust, scalable, and well-documented interfaces.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced Agile/DevOps environment to deliver high-quality software.
- Mentor junior developers on best practices for modern software development and the effective use of AI tools.
- Ensure solutions are built with robust security, leveraging frameworks like Spring Security and adhering to enterprise standards.
- Engage in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, perf testing, CI/CD, and production support.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Over 8+ years of proven experience in enterprise application development using Java/J2EE technologies.
- Must have an AI-first mindset with demonstrable expertise in leveraging AI-powered coding assistants (e.g., Devin, Claude Code) and internal AI platforms to write, debug, and optimize code.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java (version 1.8 or above), Spring Boot, and building RESTful web services.
- Strong, practical knowledge of microservice architecture patterns, event-driven design, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Proven experience with messaging platforms, specifically Kafka.
- Expertise in deploying and managing applications in cloud environments, with hands-on experience in ECS, Docker, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
- Good working knowledge of API Gateway management using APIGEE.
- Proficiency with backend databases, including relational (Oracle PL/SQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB).
- Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and toolchains (Git, BitBucket, TeamCity, Artifactory, Jira).
- Expertise in testing methodologies and tools, including mocking frameworks, JUnit, and performance testing.
- Familiarity with Redis is highly desirable.
- Basic Unix/Linux knowledge, including shell scripting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (in science, computers, information technology or engineering)
Candidate should be willing to work late in the evening India time on need basis in order to interact with US onshore team and to meet urgent requests by Clients
