Managing Director, Head of Investments Advisory, Hong Kong
We’re currently looking for a high caliber professional to join our team as Managing Director, Head of Investments Advisory based in Hong Kong. This role is a direct report of the Head of Wealth for Japan, Asia North & Australia (JANA), and a member of the Wealth JANA Leadership Team.
The Managing Director, Head of Investments Advisory, Hong Kong, is a senior leadership role that manages multiple teams of senior professionals through other senior managers. The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to enabling the Investments Advisory capabilities for Citi’s Wealth franchise in Hong Kong. In-depth knowledge of the industry and direct competitors' products/services is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences. The job is likely to be involved in both internal and external negotiations which will have a major impact on the area managed, and possibly on other related areas and organization as a whole. The role will be responsible to develop medium- to long-term plans and executes functional strategies for the Investment Advisory organization in Hong Kong, requiring coordination and integration across with business partners and stakeholders. Full management responsibility of the investments advisory team, including management of people, budget and planning. Has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues/activities that have critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital or business operations.
This role will be an Executive Officer (EO) under the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
Responsibilities:
- The primary focus of the role is to ensure corporate strategy execution on a cluster level. The role is visible to Citi Global Wealth senior management and is a clear ambassador to the overall growth and success of the Investment Advisory business in Hong Kong.
- Job function includes supervisory responsibilities, setting vision and productivity goals, overall market profitability, sales, operations, recruiting/workforce growth, and adhering to all regulatory rules/guidelines.
- Held accountable for the achievement of revenue and net new investment asset performance and all business drivers, initiatives, expense management goals as well as oversees the formulation and execution of the strategic business plans.
- Owns the collective results in sales, hiring, risk management, and productivity within Investment Advisory and the overall Wealth franchise in Hong Kong.
- Owns and manages a profitable P&L with a focus on driving a remarkable client experience while helping to drive improvement in client metrics throughout the organization.
- Aligns with relevant stakeholders, drives and identifies opportunities to deepen existing customer relationships through exploring opportunities to expand client wallet; drives a coordinated approach to product launches including origination, demand assessment, marketing and execution efforts.
- Direct contact for Wealth Senior Management for market results and regular business updates for the Investments Advisory business.
- Provides strong leadership, conviction and messaging to all direct reports towards driving the client centric and segment strategy.
- Motivates, persuades, and leads a group of Investments Specialists and non-team partners to execute on delivering value to the Citi shareholder with existing and new clients of Citi.
- Demonstrates ability to attract talent in relevant markets both at the producer level and the leadership level.
- Represents Citi at industry conferences and lead discussions regarding Citi strategy and overall market presence.
- Communicates effectively with senior management representing the Investments Advisory business and the franchise. This includes heads of HR, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Wealth, Banking, Markets and Services.
- Strategic thinking and critical / objective decision making to build consensus, drive incremental results, and work with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
- Drives execution with a high sense of urgency, focused on details and managing multiple and complex matters, often including multiple stakeholders and leaders internal and external to Citi.
- Understands and drives client segmentation as well as the future growth strategy and client metrics.
- Contributes to the organization’s goals and embodies the firm’s leadership standards and values by collaborating effectively with others and setting the standard for leadership.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of management experience with financial services focus.
- Required Licensing/Registration in meeting the local regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated financial acumen with knowledge and experience in managing and operating in a global and matrixed environment.
- Extensive experience in product sales and business development; prior investment sales management required.
- Demonstrated success in growing a business, building internal & external partnerships and ability to negotiate complex structures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and influence others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Customer services orientation.
- Technical ability and understanding of cutting edge and emerging technology.
- Highly capable in change management and proven experience in driving change.
Education:
- Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
