Job Description

Meet the team

The Catalyst Engineering IOS XE Platform Independent Team designs and develops high-performance system software for a broad range of Cisco platforms, including Enterprise Switching, Routing, Wireless, and Service Provider solutions. As part of a team driving industry-leading innovation, you will contribute to building next-generation networking technologies in a rapidly evolving and dynamic market.


Your Impact

  • Develop high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions aligned with Cisco's Design Thinking principles, emphasizing simplicity, user experience, reliability, and customer success.
  • Design, implement, test, and support software features throughout the full software development lifecycle using Agile engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, UX Design, and Engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions across networking, cloud, and enterprise platforms.
  • Build and enhance high-performance system software for Cisco Enterprise Switching, Routing, Wireless, and Service Provider platforms.
  • Participate in technical design, coding, debugging, troubleshooting, code reviews, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and maintain technical design documentation and contribute to end-user documentation.
  • Apply secure coding practices and execute testing focused on functionality, scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Monitor, triage, and resolve production issues, participate in incident response and postmortem activities, and support operational excellence.
  • Contribute innovative ideas that improve product capabilities, engineering efficiency, and customer experience.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of related experience, or Master's degree with 0+ years of related experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
  • Solid foundation in Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and Software Engineering principles.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional Agile teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated learner with a passion for innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of networking technologies including L2/L3 protocols, routing and switching concepts.
  • Experience with YANG Data Models, NETCONF, RESTCONF, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, distributed systems, and infrastructure development.
  • Experience with telemetry, observability, and infrastructure automation frameworks such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • Exposure to Enterprise Switching, Routing, Wireless, or Service Provider networking platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering workflows.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience working on large-scale cloud or AI deployments.
  • Familiarity with Cisco IOS XE platforms or network programmability technologies.
