Software Engineer (remote)

Change.org is searching for a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain software solutions, applying technical skills and problem-solving abilities to contribute to the successful delivery of projects.

A bit about Change.org: we’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform, with 100 million monthly users, over 50,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. In the last decade in Mexico, from the mobilization against the Maya train to the campaign to increase vacation days, many nationwide movements were created on Change.org. From the campaign Cáncer Warriors to ask for the release of the elephant Eli , dozens of local, national and international victories are happening every day thanks to the power of our users who are changing our country.

• Experience with different technologies, languages and frameworks in all layers of the webstack, from frontend to backend with an emphasis on Nodejs, Ruby on Rails, Elixir, React, Javascript/Typescript, GraphQL
• Experience with SQL-based databases

• Collaborate with team members to contribute to project planning and execution
• Deliver results in a timely manner that meet requirements with minimal guidance
• Proactively communicate any issues that prevent progress of tasks
• Architecture & Design, Performance:
• Actively participate in architectural decisions that lead to high-performant, scalable and resilient systems in a collaborative environment.
• Offer insights and suggestions for improvements to optimize performance and scalability

Target experience:

• 2-4 years of experience with full stack web service development
• 2 years of experience in at least one language that we use at Change: Nodejs, Rails, Elixir
• 2 years of experience in frontend technologies like React/JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience developing data access layers using RESTful APIs or GraphQL

This is a remote role available in two different formats: either a full-time employee paid MX$68,000/month gross and hired through a third-party local entity, or as a contractor paid MX$88,500/month gross. The benefits available, and structures of the roles, are different. We're happy to go over the details in our first call.

Our compensation philosophy is based on pay equity. All of our salaries are determined before we launch a role – they are based on a predetermined salary scale, the level on that scale and the cost of labor for that location. 

Our evaluation process is as follows:

• 30 min Recruiter screen
• 60 min interview with our VP of Engineering & Mexico Site Lead
• 2 hour take home exercise
• 2.5 hour virtual onsite
• 30 min interview with our CTO
