The Team
Across our work in Science, Education, and within our communities, we pair technology with grant-making, impact investing, and collaboration to help accelerate the pace of progress toward our mission. Our Central Operations & Partners team provides the support needed to push this work forward.
Central Operations & Partners consists of our Brand & Communications, Facilities, Finance, Infrastructure/IT Operations/Business Systems, Initiative Operations, People, Real Estate/Workplace/Facilities/Security, Research & Learning, and Ventures teams. These teams provide the essential operations, services, and strategies needed to support CZI’s progress toward achieving its mission to build a better future for everyone.
Our Central Tech team provides technology and security support for CZI and our grantees. We believe that Engineering, IT and Security are most effective when in sync and learning from each other on a daily basis. Across our three pillars of Infrastructure, Security, and Grantee & Partner Support, we enable our teams to achieve their goals faster and more securely. We leverage technology to automate manual processes, constantly innovate to optimize operations, provide first-class support, and build solutions to enable the scale and execution of our business partners' strategies and initiatives.
The Opportunity
Laptops, mobile devices, and other endpoints are often the most overlooked systems when it comes to investing in engineering to ensure that employees are highly productive and secure. We believe that the management of end user devices should be treated as a true engineering challenge, no less than that of managing production servers.
As an IT Client Platform Engineer at CZI, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the systems that manage and secure our corporate endpoints. You will work cross-functionally to develop a seamless end user experience, while serving as an escalation point for the IT Operations and Information
What You'll Do
- Design, build, manage, and actively support our macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android deployments using a combination of Open Source and commercial endpoint management systems.
- Manage entire endpoint provisioning lifecycle and security posture leveraging MDM and configuration management tools.
- Partner with IT Operations to identify automation opportunities, creating zero-touch deployment workflows and self-service capabilities.
- Integrate new and existing devices/systems into CZI’s corporate identity and access management platforms.
- Build tools and systems to bridge the gaps between existing solutions or in areas where they just fall short.
- Provide escalation support, documentation, and training to Helpdesk technicians for issues related to endpoint deployment.
- Build robust change management processes and identify areas to leverage Infrastructure as Code.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of client platform engineering experience in a cross-platform enterprise (macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android).
- 5+ years experience working with Mobile Device Management systems such as Workspace One, Intune, Jamf, Kandji, MobileIron, etc.
- 5+ years experience working with common monitoring and configuration management tools such as Microsoft DSC, Chocolatey, and osquery.
- 5+ years scripting and/or coding experience with languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc., and using APIs to establish automation-driven processes.
- 5+ years experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred). Terraform experience is a plus.
- 5+ years of 3rd party package management platforms, such as Tanium, AutoPKG, and Munki.
- A keen eye for security best practices running a growing, mixed fleet of distributed endpoints.
- Experience with SaaS-based identity and access management systems such as Okta and Duo, and proficiency with Zero Trust and Beyond Corp security models.
- Empathy for end users, passion for creating frictionless experiences, and exceptional customer service
Compensation
The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $158,000 - $237,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
