Java - Senior Software Engineer

The Team:
We're building a new engineering team to drive the productization of an exciting and innovative new project. The purpose of this project is to extend Celonis' process observability beyond company boundaries, enabling our customers with the power to share knowledge cross-organization. This will allow companies to share their data with their business partners and augment their own process data, opening up new opportunities for process improvement across value chains involving multiple companies.

The Role:

As a global hyper-growth leader in process mining technology, our goal at Celonis is to establish our Intelligent Business Cloud as a standard SaaS solution in any company. Celonis is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build new features, design and implement robust public APIs and continuously increase our software's reliability. Our Java services are built on Java 21 and Spring (Boot), and expertise in microservices is highly desirable.

The work you’ll do:

• Take full ownership of features delivery life-cycle from technical design and implementation to production rollout and maintenance.
• Continuously improve the reliability and stability of our products.
• Work with state-of-the-art technologies, developing breakthrough solutions always aiming to bring further value to our users and increase the Customer reach.
• Propose, define, implement and release new software functionalities.
• Constantly improve our development processes aiming for automation and efficiency.
• Collaborate and work closely with the Product Management and UX teams to better understand end-user requirements.
• Embrace a continuous learning and continuous improvement culture.
• Mentor less experienced team members.
• Help to retain and attract Talent within the organization

The qualifications you need:

• 6+ years of experience designing and building backend services with:
• An object-oriented programming language; Java preferred.
• The Spring Framework or similar.
• Relational databases; PostgreSQL a plus. 
• Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) data pipelines for large quantities of customer data.
• AWS storage and data processing technologies such as S3, Databricks and Spark.
• Experience with common backend architectural patterns such as API gateway, microservices, and event-driven systems.
• Experience creating both internal and customer-facing REST APIs.
• Experience writing clear, understandable and testable code with a continuous focus on maintainability, performance, security and stability. 
• Strong understanding of data privacy laws and regulations such as GDPR, FedRAMP, HIPAA.
• A can-do attitude able to solve complex problems with limited supervision. 
• A joy for sharing knowledge, working, and collaborating with other teams across the organization.
• Full professional proficiency in English.

Other helpful experience:

• Experience working with Git for source control.
• Knowledge of GitHub and GitHub Actions for CICD.
• Knowledge of common web security vulnerabilities, such as the OWASP Top Ten, and how to program defensively against them.
• Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes for development and deployment.
• Knowlege of both single- and multi-tenancy architecture.
• Basic understanding of shell scripting, such as bash or zsh.
