Staff Software Engineer

Department: Engineering

Location: San Francisco

Compensation: $185K – $255K • Offers Equity

Employment Type: FullTime

Why Casca?

Casca is building AGI for banking. We’re replacing decades-old legacy systems with AI-native technology that automates 90% of the manual work humans once had to do.

What you'll do:

Projected Division of Responsibilities: 70% contributing code / 30% collaborating with stakeholders and mentoring

  • Lead Strategy with Urgency: Drive architectural decisions that support long-term stability while maintaining the pace required by a fast-growing banking platform. You will identify critical paths and make high-stakes technical calls to keep the organization moving efficiently.

  • Balance Coding & Leadership: Maintain a projected division of roughly 70% contributing high-quality code and 30% driving technical alignment. You will be expected to ship individually while unblocking the wider team.

  • Drive Execution: Lead the development of complex initiatives by chunking and sequencing work to maximize parallelization. You will be responsible for maintaining high throughput and ensuring features reach production without unnecessary delays.

  • Amplify the Team: Amplify your skills and vision by supporting the growth of the team. You will mentor team members both directly and by example, helping others reach their true potential and driving engineering best practices.

  • Optimize for Value: Leverage strong pattern recognition to build SaaS applications that effectively balance complexity, quality, and speed of delivery. You will build for our customers, avoiding complexity for complexity’s sake.

  • Elevate Standards: Lead initiatives to fine-tune controls and communication channels to improve predictability and system reliability. You will use data to ruthlessly prioritize work that moves the needle.

Our tech stack: TypeScript, React, NextJS, Postgres with Prisma, Python, AWS.

What you'll bring:

  • Seasoned Engineering Expertise: 7+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering significant projects in fast-paced, production SaaS environments. You have a holistic understanding of web architectures and are comfortable navigating a broad system.

  • Operational Resilience: You thrive in high-velocity environments and are comfortable making decisions under pressure. You understand that a perfect architecture is useless if it doesn't ship, and you know how to manage trade-offs to maintain momentum.

  • Architectural Maturity: A quality-first mentality, but with a bias for action. You can quickly identify the trade-offs between "doing it right" and "doing it now," and you know when to pull which lever.

  • Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in modern programming languages and web application frameworks, along with strong competence in data modeling for relational databases and distributed cloud platforms.

  • Security & Compliance Awareness: Experience in regulated industries (like Fintech or Healthcare) is a nice-to-have. We value engineers who instinctively design for security, reliability and compliance without slowing down execution.

  • Strategic Problem Solving: You can take a high-level business goal and independently drive it to a technical solution, navigating ambiguity and minimizing churn along the way.

What you'll get:

  • Impact & Ownership: A unique opportunity to shape the future of banking through AI, owning end-to-end product initiatives.

  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a talented and passionate team that values continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Competitive Compensation: Includes salary, benefits, and potential equity in a fast-growing startup.

  • Professional Growth: Access to resources and mentorship to expand your skill set, influence strategy, and accelerate your career.

  • Culture of Innovation: We encourage risk-taking, learning from failures, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in fintech.

As an early-stage company building at the frontier of AI, we work with high intensity and commitment. While schedules can vary by role/team, many weeks will demand extra focus, flexibility and time particularly during major launches and high impact sprints. We're seeking those who are aligned to and able to commit to that expectation.
