The Audio Visual Systems Engineer is responsible for providing superior operational support to the University, with a specific focus on Teaching and Learning services. Primary tasks involve troubleshooting and repairing complex issues related to audio-visual technologies across campus. Collaborating with the team to ensure the ongoing maintenance and reliability of these systems. As part of project development, the Audio Visual Systems Engineer works closely with project managers to create schematic drawings and other design-related documentation. During the commissioning phase, responsibilities include writing configuration files and performing other necessary activities to deliver systems that meet the client’s requirements. Their insights and feedback will contribute to the evolution of functional standards for enterprise AV deployments.

CMU’s Computing Services department is searching for a Audio Visual Systems Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by designing, developing, testing and maintains applications or systems programs. Gathers and provides input on functional specifications and requirements. Supports business user questions/issues regarding applications and/or systems issues and availability. Develops and maintains technical documentation. May perform other related technical support for the department or college.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Commission AV system to meet specified functional requirements.

  • Troubleshooting and repairing advanced AV systems.

  • Field terminations of common AV cables

  • Writing JSON files

  • Experience using standard and proprietary software tools to design, configure, troubleshoot and maintain AV systems.

  • Crestron Toolbox - SSH Client - Dante Controller - Tesira - SFTP - Visio - Bluebean -Visual Studio Code

  • Designs, develops, tests and maintains applications or systems programs.

  • Develops and maintains technical documentation.

  • Gathers and provides input on functional specifications and requirements.

  • May perform other related technical support for the department or college.

  • Perform functions required to deliver and maintain standard enterprise level audiovisual services.

  • Perform maintenance and/or repairs of AV systems in a timely manner to ensure maximum system availability for clients.

  • Produce schematic designs for AV systems.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Requires wide range of mobility, i.e., ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, bend at waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, perform minor repairs to equipment, stand for long periods of time, lift and carry equipment and other heavy materials up to 50 lbs. up stairs and pull and push carts up to 150 lbs. University offices, auditoriums and classrooms. Routine exposure to computer and audio-visual equipment.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.

  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Required to function in constricted spaces.

  • Required to respond to emergency situations remotely or onsite within a designated timeframe.

  • Required to travel to and/or work at off-campus or remote locations.

  • Required to work normal business hours; evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.

Direction:

  • Performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

Supervision:

  • Not responsible for supervising others.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent mix of education and experience

  • 1-3 years of operating system administration experience

  • 1-3 years of systems/software engineering experience

  • 1-3 Systems programming experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Effective teamwork skills

Requirements:

  • Successful background check

  • Crestron DMC-T/DMC-E/DMC-D - Preferred

  • Audinate Dante Level 1-3 - Preferred

  • Biamp Tesira/Server IO - Preferred

  • AVIXA CTS - Preferred
