Job Description

ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology

Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips

Working for tomorrow today.

Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.

Semiconductor Fab Solutions (SFS) develops electron microscopy solutions for quality control in the semiconductor industry.

Become part of the team behind groundbreaking innovations like the “ZEISS MultiSEM” and help push the boundaries of technology every day. You’ll work closely with people from a wide variety of disciplines. Take on the challenge and grow through exciting and responsible assignments. Join us at our inspiring location in Oberkochen, where you’ll have the opportunity to advance your career in a forward-looking environment.

Your Role

  • Take end-to-end technical ownership for the integration, qualification, and maturity development of complex system functions within advanced semiconductor equipment

  • Define, drive, and continuously improve integration and qualification strategies across modules, subsystems, interfaces, operating modes, recovery concepts, and overall tool behavior

  • Validate the interaction between subsystem functions, control logic, user interfaces, safety concepts, diagnostics, recovery behavior, and operational workflows

  • Structure complex technical issues, break them down into clear problem statements, and drive cross-functional decisions with transparent ownership and follow-up

  • Lead structured root cause analysis for system integration incidents and translate findings into corrective actions, design improvements, improved test coverage, and lessons learned

  • Support and guide prototype build, commissioning, factory acceptance, system qualification, production transfer, and early customer ramp-up for integration-relevant functions

  • Create and improve structured documentation for integration status, problem descriptions, root causes, countermeasures, verification results, risk assessments, decision history, and ownership of follow-up actions

  • Drive continuous improvement of system robustness, availability, serviceability, integration efficiency, and customer readiness

  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, support decision-making in critical integration phases, identify risks early, and help establish standards, methods, and best practices for repeatable system qualification and production transfer

Your Profile

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Semiconductor Technology, Systems Engineering, or a comparable technical field

  • Several years of practical experience in semiconductor equipment, complex electro-mechanical systems, automation, robotics, system integration, system test, or production-near engineering environments

  • Strong understanding of system qualification, integration testing, acceptance criteria, verification logic, interface validation, and structured assessment of complex tool behavior

  • Hands-on mindset in laboratory, cleanroom, prototype, commissioning, or production-near environments, with the ability to translate tool observations and data into technical decisions

  • Experience in analyzing technical issues using data, logs, test observations, and structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, Ishikawa, FMEA, fault tree analysis, or comparable approaches

  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with interdisciplinary and international teams, and to align technical decisions across engineering functions, project stakeholders, and operational interfaces

  • Strong ownership mindset, high level of structure, and the ability to create transparency in technically complex or unclear situations

  • Very good English skills; German language skills are an advantage and willingness to travel
