Description

🏆 What’s the opportunity?

Embark on a pioneering journey to drive air freight and logistics digital transformation. As a proud member of a rapidly expanding Series B company, you'll collaborate with a team supported by prominent Venture Capital firms like Index and Bessemer.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will engage with diverse stakeholders, contributing to feature designs and architectural decisions, and ensuring, at the same time, the quality of the work. You will dive deep into technical complexities, refining and writing tickets. You will experience a culture of open communication, providing and receiving insightful feedback during retrospectives, one-on-ones, and regular performance reviews.

We're advocates of Scrum. If you're familiar with the Scrum guide or have been part of an efficient Scrum team, you'll resonate with our working style. We hope you'll embody our core values: commitment, courage, focus, openness, and respect.

At our core, we believe in a harmonious blend of diligent work, continuous feedback, and the right amount of fun. Ready to join us and revolutionize how airlines handle cargo?

🌍 You can work from (almost) anywhere in Europe and South Africa. We are a remote company, but regularly meet in person, too. As a German company originally, we can support with visa processes only in Germany.

🎬 A snapshot of what you will be doing here:

  • You will work with technologies like Python 3, Flask, Javascript, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis. We run a service-oriented architecture with synchronous gRPC endpoints and Celery for asynchronous workloads. All of it runs in Kubernetes clusters deployed in Google Cloud Platform.

  • We aim to have continuous deployment pipelines and code that goes into production extremely fast. We can deploy several times daily today, but a few manual steps are still involved. We are constantly expanding our automated tests and refining log messages, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerts to move closer to the desired level of automation and observability.

  • We are constantly experimenting with technologies that could help us do a better job faster. We integrate SonarQube into our pipelines. Every engineer has access to a Copilot license to speed up tedious tasks. We are playing with AI to see how it can help in getting the best value out of processes like code reviews or recurring meetings.

  • We are constantly thinking about our users. There are lots of people in the organization who are even closer to them, from customer service agents to account managers and of course our product team. Nonetheless, it is our job to ask “why?” a lot, challenge assumptions, and bring our unique perspective as software engineers to the table.

  • We want to enable our co-workers to do their jobs as effectively as possible, so we are regularly building and extending self-service tools for the different roles in the organization. While we have already covered quite a bit of ground on this front, there is still a lot to build. In the meantime, as engineers, we provide hands-on support to ensure our users have an awesome experience.

  • We thrive on proactivity. Everyone is encouraged to share knowledge, offer constructive feedback, uplift colleagues, and step up with leadership qualities when the team requires it most.

🕵🏼‍♀️ We are looking for individuals with:

  • We're seeking passionate individuals with at least 5 years of relevant experience. We value what you've learned and achieved during your time in the field.

  • Our ideal candidate is someone curious about building transformative products. We're looking for individuals who empathize with users, are passionate about our mission, and are excited about the chance to reshape an industry.

  • Verbal and written communication are key. Even more so in a remote-first environment. We cherish those who actively:

    • Contribute to and evolve our documentation.

    • Share their insights, experiences, and novel ideas with the team.

    • Assist fellow engineers during onboarding and foster a collaborative learning environment.

  • Candidates with a strong foundation in Python are especially welcome. Your experience with Python will be a significant asset to our team, and we're particularly keen on candidates who have harnessed its capabilities in previous roles. However, we also value adaptability and the breadth of your technical experience.

  • We value a strong knowledge of SQL. Whether you've been hands-on with database operations, crafted efficient queries, or delved into troubleshooting performance issues, we appreciate the diverse ways you've engaged with databases.

  • Understanding the workings of web applications is also a requirement. This can mean having insights into web architecture, knowing about the flow of requests and responses, and understanding how backend systems integrate with other services. No matter your path of experience, we recognize the unique expertise you contribute.

  • We love open, fun, and low-ego team players. Nothing is won if you plow through the tasks you picked but your team struggles to deliver on another aspect of the sprint.

❤️ We think you will love working here if:

  • You treasure building deep, trusting relationships with your team and managers.

  • Innovation excites you, and you’re always on the lookout for opportunities to enhance processes, starting small and climbing your way up to the architecture.

  • Remote work is not just a convenience; it's a dynamic challenge you're eager to navigate and crack open.

  • Ownership, commitment, and the joy of exceeding expectations define your work ethic.

  • Personal growth is paramount, and you're not afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

  • Feedback is a two-way street for you; you believe in giving as much as you take.

  • Voicing well-informed opinions, backed by data, is second nature to you.

✨ We are currently offering the following benefits globally:

  • Company-wide:

    • Home office budget of €650 which can be used to purchase items such as a desk, chair, mouse, keyboard & monitor, etc. On top of that, choose between MacBook Air (M3 chip) or Dell XPS and have it delivered prior to your starting date.

    • Offsite fun & team trips since there’s nothing more important than culture and team spirit. We meet twice a year as a company and once as a team. Click here to watch a video from one of our early offsite events.

    • Unlimited co-working options through our partner desana all around the world.

    • Mindsurance: premium digital mental health care for remote teams.

    • 24 paid vacation days on top of the bank holidays (specific to the country you are in) and special leaves.

    • Permanent full-time employment through our partner Remote.com in case you are based outside of Germany.

  • Engineering-specific:

    • A GitHub Copilot license, your new AI-powered pair programmer who never complains about coffee breaks.- A full IntelliJ PyCharm license to elevate your Python development.

    • Prefer another tool like Visual Studio Code or Neovim? No problem, we are not strict about this.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
