What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Leading ML projects end-to-end from ideation to production;
• Build AI/ML solutions that extend and scale our personalisation platform's capabilities, including user segmentation, next-best-action, and content tailoring;
• Building and designing production-ready ML models that can integrate with Canva’s tech stack;
• Working closely with Product to understand how AI/ML can solve user problems through personalized experiences;
• Continuously improving our portfolio of AI/ML models;
• Developing reusable tools for MLOps and tracking the business value attributed to our models;
• Exploring cutting-edge AI tech for personalisation (e.g. Generative AI, Reinforcement Learning, etc.)

You're probably a match if

• You have 2-3 years of industry experience building and deploying machine learning models with a Product/SaaS company, preferably using Kubernetes, preferably on AWS
• You are proficient in coding in Python and SQL
• You have a strong understanding of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals and first principles covering system design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns
• You are familiar with the ML libraries e.g. sklearn, scipy, numpy, pytorch, jupyter 
• You can demonstrate excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills

It would be preferable if you have:

• Experience with Snowflake
• Familiarity with Java
• Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem: ECS, EKS, ECR, Kinesis

About the team

The Personalisation subgroup owns and maintains Canva’s personalisation platform, a comprehensive suite of data and AI/ML tools designed to deliver exceptional, cross-channel personalised experiences for our users at scale. We enable Canva to deeply understand each user’s journey and determine the optimal actions—be it features, content, or product bundles—that will resonate most with them. Our team enhances both in-product and marketing experiences by tailoring content to fit the user’s unique context. The capabilities we provide are crucial to Canva’s user acquisition, retention, and revenue growth, playing a significant role in achieving our company vision and strategy.

The personalisation enablement team in the Personalisation subgroup is responsible for building and maintaining a catalogue of user propensity models and a suite of feature and content recommendation systems. These AI/ML solutions help drive tailored experiences in products and enable more personalised and targeted marketing campaigns. Additionally, we also leverage our AI/ML solutions for deriving strategic insights that inform new product features.
