Role Overview:

ButterflyMX is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our stellar team building world-class products for the built world. Our mission is to revolutionize how people access the buildings where they live and work.

This is an AI-forward engineering role. You will use AI-assisted development tools daily (mostly Claude Code) and build AI-powered features and products using leading agentic frameworks. We are deeply committed to leveraging AI across our engineering organization — both as a force multiplier for how we build and as the foundation of the next generation of our product suite.

As a member of this team, you will work directly with cutting-edge AI technologies:

• AI Agent Development: Build, deploy, and iterate on AI-powered features and products using agent frameworks including OpenAI Agents SDK, Anthropic Claude Code SDK, and Google Agent Development Kit (ADK)

• MCP Server Development: Design and implement MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to extend AI agent capabilities across our platform

• AI-Assisted Development: Use Claude Code and other AI-assisted tools as core parts of your daily development workflow

• Multi-Agent Systems: Design multi-agent architectures that coordinate specialized agents for complex workflows across access control, resident services, and property management

• End-to-End AI Feature Delivery: Own the full lifecycle of AI features from prototyping through production, including prompt engineering, evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities:

• Partner with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to design, build, and evolve the APIs and services that power our products—with a growing emphasis on AI-driven capabilities

• Lead large-scale projects from ideation to launch with a customer-first mindset

• Architect and build AI-powered features, integrating LLM-based agents into our product ecosystem

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable, and testable code

• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devise solutions, and propose optimizations

• Work comfortably across front-end and back-end layers of the architecture

• Implement patterns and systems for independently deployable full-stack services

• Champion code quality, documentation, and engineering best practices

• Lead by example as a passionate technologist who is constantly pushing the boundaries of what AI-augmented engineering teams can deliver

• Mentor and guide other engineers, especially in adopting AI tools and agent-based development patterns

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional development experience

• 4+ years of professional development experience in TypeScript / JavaScript

• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) in production workflows

• Experience building applications that integrate with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)

• Strong experience with automated CI/CD pipelines

• Strong experience working in and advocating for Agile environments

• Deep understanding of testing—what, when, and how to test (including AI feature evaluation)

• Extensive experience developing and maintaining APIs, as well as integrating with 3rd party APIs

• Hands-on experience in distributed/cloud-based environments (AWS EC2/ECS, Lambdas, NoSQL, etc.) within a service-oriented architecture

• Experience with relational databases and SQL

• Experience with Docker and dockerized development environments

• Experience managing security for Linux/AWS/Docker environments

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across business and technical teams

• Comfortable in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment

Nice to have:

• Experience building AI agents and multi-agent systems in production

• Experience developing MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers

• Hands-on work with the OpenAI Agents SDK, Anthropic Claude Code SDK, and/or Google ADK

• Familiarity with agent orchestration patterns (tool use, handoffs, guardrails, tracing)

• Experience with real-time AI models and streaming inference

• Experience with voice models and conversational AI (e.g., OpenAI Realtime API, Whisper, TTS)

• Experience with multi-modal systems (vision + language, document understanding)

• Experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, and semantic search

• GraphQL

• Familiarity with development for IoT devices

• Experience with prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and LLM observability tools
