Who You Are
Brightwheel is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Analytics Engineering to lead data modeling and technical instrumentation across all functions at Brightwheel. Your team will play a critical role in Brightwheel’s efforts to become a data-first company and help accelerate growth while positively impacting our customer experiences. 

You will bring a deep understanding of technical data concepts and build a scalable architecture that spans all aspects of the data stack: Ingestion, Storage, ETL, Warehousing, Retrieval, Business Intelligence and Data Science. Additionally, you should be able to translate unstructured business problems into technical solutions to support immediate needs while also anticipating and building for undefined future needs. 

You will act as a player/coach, being both hands on in the design and strategy of our data architecture while also managing a team of senior and junior engineers. We expect this team to grow over time as we continue to launch new products and invest in new data pillars such as machine learning and product analytics. 

What You'll Do

  • Bridge both technical and non-technical requirements between business stakeholders, data analysts and data engineers.
  • Support with design and implementation across Brightwheel’s entire data stack; This includes establishing an infrastructure that enables reporting, ad-hoc insights, self-service dashboards, programmatic capabilities (e.g. machine learning) and internal tools.
  • Implement scalable and reliable data models that service all functions across the organization (Sales, Customer Success, Marketing and Product).
  • Champion working backwards principles and contribute to strategic business conversations by proactively voicing what we can and cannot accomplish with data.
  • Ingest, transform and build pipelines for a wide variety of data sources across services and tools to create unified datasets that support a majority of current and future business needs.
  • Be an active voice in the Brightwheel data community, fostering collaboration, innovating thinking and data best practices.
  • Coach, manage and grow a team of analysts and engineers. This role will be a player/coach, and will have both individual and team responsibilities.

Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities

  • 10+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data engineering or other relevant technical data roles.
  • 3+ years of experience as a people manager leading at least two direct reports with. Track record of developing talent is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of a robust data stack with experience implementing data models from scratch.
  • Proven experience in managing a data warehouse and pipelines that scale with business growth, product launches and users.
  • Advanced SQL skills, with the ability to create, optimize and debug complex queries.
  • Excellent program management and writing skills, initiating, prioritizing and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance. 
  • Experience working with data engineering teams to implement ETL workflows, with experience using Airflow and dbt preferred. 
  • Proficient in using programming languages such as Python to enable data products. 
  • Experience in building pipelines that ingest data from key tools used in SaaS businesses (Salesforce, Hubspot, etc) is a plus.
  • Experience with AWS data tools and services (e.g. Redshift)
  • Proficiency in one or more analytics visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Sigma). 
  • Must have experience deriving insights from complex data and dealing with relational databases
  • Working knowledge of data engineering principles: understanding how to store, manage, & retrieve large-scale data sets from multiple systems for analysis or operations.
